I think the next draft might provide our best bet to secure a RB to afford this team a good chance to advance further in the playoffs.
This is a reply that has written off Super Bowl expectations. How do you get further in the playoffs if you win it all?

Their run blocking was good, but I wouldn’t say any back could excel with them. If they felt that way they would’ve never traded for McCafferty. The back does matter.
Most backs excel under Shanahan's run scheme. But if can get McCaffery, you do, because he's a superior back who can catch too.

Both things can be true. A healthy McCaffery makes any offense better, no question. But Shanahan's run and blocking schemes are super productive, no matter who lines up in the backfield.

Since we didn't pick up a Blue Chip RB during free agency it would have been interesting if we had been able to aquire Frank Gore Jr when he became available.

We all know the ceiling of our current RBs.......and Gore jr flashed pretty damn good in his opportunities in the preseason

I disagree with you on no matter who lines up in the backfield. Like I said the back matters. Jordan Mason looks like he might be a great find for San Francisco. He’s quick and hits the hole hard. Plus, San Francisco’s OL was destroying the Jets upfront. Any back probably would’ve had success with the gaping holes that were opening up. I don’t think the Jets were prepared for Mason.

You disagree with me, yet you said "San Francisco’s OL was destroying the Jets upfront. Any back probably would’ve had success with the gaping holes that were opening up."

I’m disagreeing that you think Shanahan’s run scheme is going to make any back excel throughout the season. In last weeks game their run blocking was outstanding. Destroying the opponent upfront isn’t going to happen every week. McCafferty could be out again so we’ll see how Mason performs against Minnesota. Like I said he could be a great find for them.

I don't expect the Cowboys to be Super Bowl participants and neither should you, if you've been following this team's tendencies. We're highly unlikely to win more than one game in the playoffs. If I'm wrong, I'll be just as pleased as anyone else in our membership. Counting upon baby steps is just the most logical way to look at it. I do believe we've improved -- but just not enough to make much of a difference. We still have work to do, imho.
