Thinking about it, this one move could've be a turning point in this franchise. I wouldn't at all be surprised that if we drafted Manziel we would've returned to the miserable football we grew accustomed to pre-Parcells.

We have had two of our best seasons in 20 years over a 3 season stretch and we appear to be a franchise heading in the right direction. I believe Manziel fares a tiny bit better than Weeden/Cassell in 15 so we wouldn't have had Zeke and no way Jerry gives up on Manziel after two seasons so we wouldn't have
Dak. Romo might have still been here..I wouldn't be surprised if Murray is still here as well since he likely wouldn't have played himself out of a contract in 2014.

If we go on any type of run in the next five years, that decision will be the turning point of the franchise imo.

The Devil's Advocate in me kind of wanted Manziel. I didn't believe it was a bad idea to have your QB of the Future on the roster. I knew it wasn't the best pick but we sure dodged a bullet and ended up with one of the best football players on the game.

You know how people like to say players are a "lock" to be good?

One of the safest locks in recent memory in the NFL draft was the notion that Manziel would flame out. That was about as obvious a certainty as there has been in recent drafts.

Those of us paying attention were dead set against drafting this guy

According to my friend that works for the Cowboys, Jerry had the phone in his hand, dialing Manziel, and Stephen grabbed his had and slammed the phone down.

He also said they already had hundreds of Manziel jerseys printed up.

At that draft party, the MC had the crowd chanting "Joh-nny Foot-ball." We, and an older couple beside us, were e the only ones ecstatic about the Martin pick.

I was very happy as well. I knew it was the right pick for the franchise...just part of me is a risk taker I guess and Manziel would've been the ultimate risk

Going into the draft, I didn't believe it was even possible. I was praying Donald fell.

I'm tempted to print my list of all the Zoners who wanted Manziel maybe more than any player in a decade.
There were at least 50 very loud voices screaming for him and about 15 who thought the world had ended when we passed.

All the Romo haters were all over Manziel by default, but some others just thought he was the guy that would carry Dallas to next level. So many were sure we were tradi g i to the 1st round to land their hero....and theyd be furious if we didnt try...because there was zero chance hed fall to us.

Funny how now everyone seems to be saying they were never for him.

Maybe the only crickets are from those that thought otherwise.

It was one wild 1st round!

The loudest pro Johnny Football guys were often the harshest Romo critics

Gameover (Manziel in Dallas is a match made in football heaven", Section444 (johnny sets up Dallas for a decade), noshame(we can dream. Jerry should move upt top10), DOUBLEWING (would cry tears of joy), Zordon ("please God", would be happiest man on earth), ufc (of course..overthe top as always), Frozen (would give up 1s, 3rd, 5th for him),
and nearly 80 others.
lol

It was pretty amazing.

I won't lie I was excited at the thought of Manziel. When we drafted Martin I was a little disappointed but clapped it off Garrett style and said that was the smarter pick. I live in College Station and I distinctly remember my wife telling me Manziel was a turd and we don't want him in Dallas.

All of the Cowboys media people (Broaddus, Eatman etc. swear that never happened). The other local media don't think it happened either.

This...Because it didn't.
Its not as if the draft room wasn't filmed the entire time, and with some parts seen nationally.
Nobody is denying that Jerry favored Johnny, but there wasn't some drama scene right before they took Martin.

It was amazing. So glad my name isn't on that list. I said from day 1 he didn't have NFL talent.

Crazy to think what this team would look like had guys like Barr/Shazier been on the board in 14, and Patterson fell to our pick in 2013.

Yep

Your comments were that you were "smiling" that we passed on Manziel and that Martin would be a pro Bowl OG.

Goofy that I kept all that. I've been wrong plenty.
It wasn't the right or wrong part as much as the venom from the pro Manziel side. I can't ever recall it being that bad around here for 2-3 months running.
