Holder added that Park was a huge "resource" for Chris Ballard and played a big role in the Colts' coaching search this offseason. Indy landed on now-former Eagles OC Shane Steichen; a hire that's received universal praise.

Given Park's influence on game day's, he had a big impact on former Colts head coach Frank Reich. Hired as the Panthers new head coach this offseason, Reich brought Colts senior football strategy analyst/game management George Li with him to Carolina.

Park is regarded as a rising star in the analytics community and he presumably steps in as the Cowboys' highest-ranking analytics administrator.

The Cowboys have strived to be a more analytical-driven organization since Mike McCarthy was hired three years ago and Park's hiring seems to be a major stepping stone in that regard.

Ok. I gave this thread a thumb's up, but... What is all this analytics stuff? How does it help the Cowboys organization, coaches and players? Trying to better understand.

The Colts have sucked lately. I will reserve judgment on this hire.
It's still a QB driven league. The last 4 years QB's for the Colts:

2022 Matt Ryan
2022 Sam Ehlinger
2022 Nick Foles
2021 Carson Wentz
2021 Jacob Eason
2020 Phillip Rivers
2020 Jacoby Brissett
2020 Zach Pascal
2019 Jacoby Brissett
2019 Brian Hoyer
2019 Zach Pascal

There is a huge difference between scouting/player acquisition and analytics.

So analytics plays no part in figuring out whether to sign a player? It should play a huge part.

When someone shows me that this really makes a difference in wins and losses I will show interest.
You better watch out. The hater police will come calling.
All the little things add up. And you will just say it was another reason they won, and not even think of the entire football operations.

Nothing to hate on, well, except the haters will find something.

Analytics in sports is a data/facts based way to look at making game plans and game time decisions. It uses facts and tendencies about all teams, players and situations so you can better understand your own team and how to utilize its talent as well as better knowing your opponents based on factual data not just human intuition.

Analytics can show you things like this: (These are just hypotheticals)
  • On 3rd down and 5 or more yards, Tony Pollard is the best weapon option in the running game vs the 49ers (based on current data), showing a 70% conversion rate.
  • The eagles appear to be vulnerable for an onside kick early in the game based on their kick return habits.
  • Going for it on 4th and 2 or less inside giants territory has a 74% chance of success.
Analytics gives you factual data to help make better informed decisions.
