Can someone confirm or deny this? A friend told me that her vet told her that being overweight/obese for a feline isn't as big of an issue as it is for humans?

It's true. Cats have 9 lives so they can theoretically survive 9X as many quadruple bypasses.

Overweight/obese cats are more prone to get diabetes just like humans.

Also they get arthritis and have difficulty walking, difficulty breathing and generally a shorter lifespan.

One other problem that I experienced with one of my cats is fatty liver disease. Because she was heavy, we didn't notice her weight loss until it was too late and we lost her in a very short time span.

I have one right now that had dropped a bunch of weight relatively fast and had an irregular heart beat. It turned out to be Hyperthyroidism, which can be managed with medication. Glad we caught it early.
