Reality reminders

After a frustrating loss like today, here are a few reality reminders any serious fan of the Cowboys and the NFL should remember:

1. The NFL is the most unpredictable league in pro sports. If you think you know what is going to happen week to week, or who is going to win or lose each week, you’re kidding yourself.

2. The margin between winning and losing in the NFL is paper thin. If a team doesn’t play its best every week, they will lose. It’s why Dallas lost today. And why a good teams like the rams or pats can suck occasionally. And why undefeated teams don’t come along anymore in the NFL.

3. What happened today is not always a good predictor of tomorrow. The Cowboys still have all their goals available to them.

4. We are what our record says we are. The Cowboys are 8-6 for a multitude of reasons. Good, but not dominant. Still have time to finish strong. Two games to further define itself.

5. When you lose this badly in this league, it’s a team effort. This was a complete team loss. From the Coaches down to last player on the roster.

6. Adversity measures a team. Good teams bounce back. Bad teams point fingers, make excuses and lose again. The good thing about this loss is it will reveal what this team really is- resilient or weak.

7. Your team probably isn’t as good as it looks in the good times or as bad as it looks in the bad times!

A lot of football left to determine what this team is going to be known for in 2018.

Bob tell this to the Pats who have basically one their division every year since the automobile was invented and ya i know they lost yesterday but for the past 15-20 years or so they have been money in the bank week in week out, i would also for the most part throw the Steelers into that same category. These are 2 of the best run well coached teams in the NFL and there records bear that out

How many times in the last say 10 years we have seen the same post over and over. The boys will aways fall apart like they have for the last 20+ years with JJ at the helm

All of the OP is true but I would add a couple more:

When your team plays flat, you will lose. It happens, no one seriously expected Dallas to win their last 8 games in a row.

With teams so evenly matched, a couple of plays like the blocked FG and missed redzone 4th Down will completely swing a game. Dallas moved the ball well in the first half, it was those plays that swung the game by two scores to the Colts instead of the Cowboys by halftime. Its not an excuse, its execution. But Dallas created too steep of a hill to climb, especially with the kind of listless play we saw yesterday.

Yup, game was over at 10-0. This coaching staff is horrendous at climbing out of double digit score holes.

I posted before the game that win or loose the Indy game won't define the 2018 season. It will be the games following. The Boys have a chance to change the narrative the next 2 weeks and playoffs. Will they be remembered as the same ole , same ole Cowboys with the typical late season swoon or an up and coming team that has turned the corner. The ball is in their court , lets see what they do with it.

These are all great reminders. It was a very disappointing loss for the Cowboys today, further compounded by wins for both the Eagles and Commanders. But next week there is another game and the Cowboys still have a chance to win the division. As fans, we need to hope that today was an aberration and that the ship will be put back on course next week.

Just think if the Commanders and Eagles lost, and we win the division. People would be whining we backed into the playoffs and don't deserve it.
That is just how many fans are.
Me, I would be celebrating for making the playoffs no matter how it happened.

I will be pleased if they do make the playoffs, even “backing in”. The odds are still in their favor but after yesterday, they’ve gone down considerably. If they go into Week 17 tied with the Eagles, I think they will not make it in. In fact, if they lose to Tampa Bay they will be (rightly) written off and so harshly criticized by the Doubters that the NYG will wipe them out.

I think many fans (me included) thought the Cowboys defense was on the verge of becoming “elite” and capable of not only being effective but actually being able to carry the team to playoff wins in spite of the offense. The fact that they got physically dominated by the Colts pretty much wrecked that illusion. Hopefully that is proven to be a one-off aberration by some inspired play in the final two weeks. If not, the “don’t deserve it” crowd will have a valid point if they do somehow manage to “back in”.

Going into the game, odds were 99% in, now it is 96%.
If the lose to TB, it is at 87%

Still very possible to miss all together.
This would be a huge collapse and Garrett would have to be fired. If he’s isn’t then there is no hope for this team ever winning anything again.

Yep, those two organizations have great football owners who let the football people run the football side. We have a great business owner that despite two plus decades of poor playoff results still hasn’t learned how to be an effective NFL owner. The only reason he has respect is his business Midas touch. He’s been the kiss of death to his team on the football side while living off his team’s past reputation and cash flow.
