on Hurd after Thompson's fumble.

He was down by contact so we got the ball back, but then the ref claimed they had to enforce the face mask even though the Texan never should have been allowed to run with the ball.

Made no sense to me then and still doesn't.

Brad Sham and Charlie Waters were wondering how you could have a penalty on a play that didn't happen.

I was wondering the same thing. I think a similar call was made in the Philly/Saints game. I think the face mask may be an exception because it was of the personal foul variety. If it had been a 5 yarder, it would not have been assessed. They didn't show it again, but I didn't think Hurd deserved to be called for a 15 yarder on that play anyway. It just seemed weird to me and hopefully someone explains it this week because I am always interested in learning the rules.

That's what I was thinking. It wouldn't surprise me if there's a personal foul exception in the rule book.

It was a personal foul.

Anytime a personal foul occurs on the field, be it during a play, during a dead ball situation or even before the game even starts, it's still a penalty.

Suppose instead of a face mask, Hurd would have drop kicked a player. Still a penalty even though the continuation never happened in the score book.

How many facemasks were called on the Cowboys?!

What's all that about? The defense played sloppy in the first half...and much better in the second...but, those penalties will kill that team if they don't stop it...!
