"I'm pretty sure it's "ma cher amio", which is kind of loose Cajun French for "my dear love" Redundantly Williams uses the word "my" before the French "ma".

Hank was referring to the woman in the song. He was saying that he was going see his dear love. Though similar to the Parisian cher ami meaning dear friend, to a Cajun sha is friend and cher is love. So the translation is cher amio meaning dear love.

Buddy Holly recorded most of his hits in the town in which I was born. Big fan of him and his great music. I got a personal tour of the Norman Petty Studios a few years ago and they have it set up the same way they had it in 1957, same equipment, instruments and all.
