Is because we obviously struggle running in the redzone...
we were tied for 15th in the nfl in rushing touchdowns...
I hate to keep harping on this but marion barber needs to go, no idea why he is the starter, he is completely ineffective in that role. We need to give these young backs who are putting up much better performances an expanded role.
we were 2nd in the nfl in rush yards per attempt... thats not because of barber, thats because of choice and jones.
Also this goalline passing of garretts needs to stop, i know im not the only that hates to see us go 3 and out on the 1 yard line...
this guy wont even dial a qb sneak... he is obsessed with the pass....
its not barber, since he average over 4.4 yards a carry last year. inside the redzone is where we struggled last year. that's where most of your rushing TDs come from. most teams dont' score a lot of rushing TD of 20 yards or more.
inside the redzone, thigns are a lot tighter. LBs play closer to the LOS, safteis cheat up, its only 20 yards of field they need to cover. that's where your OL play and their physicality comes into light and plays a critical role. our OL didn't get much push in the redzone. it didn't make a difference if it was Jones, Choice or Barber. we got stuffed. when the RB gets hit behind the LOS, within one or 2 seconds of the snap, there is something wrong with your OL getting a push forward.
several of our Rushing TDs came from long runs and you simply can't rely on that.
plus, what better performance are you talking about? choice!!! are you kidding. I don't trust him one bit since if he is in the game, we might as well start to rely on Kitna because his blitz recongnition and pick up is AWFUL. Jones is fast, explosive but for every 80 yard run he has a bunch of 1 yard runs and gets tackled and goes down to easily. I like the 80 yard runs, but I like consistency, keep the drive alive instead of bunch of 3 and outs in the hopes of getting one 80 yard run.
and we were second because of Jones and Barber not choice. take one wild cat run away from choice against the hapless Raiders and he averaged about 4.0 yards a carry. not that impressive. plus he sucks as a pass catcher out of the back field, which in essence telegraphs our run plays and defenses just ignore him.
