Reasonable Expectation for Brian Price?

We are getting pretty close to the draft and we're all chompin at the bit for Thursday, but I just wanted to highlight a guy we picked up not to long ago.

BRIAN PRICE

Coming out of the draft in 2010, he was projected as the fifth best DT.

Top 4 prospects:
Ndamukong Suh - Lions w/ 2nd pick in draft
Gerald McCoy - Bucs w/ 3rd pick in draft
Dan Williams - Cards w/ 26th pick in draft
Jared Odrick - Dolphins w/ 28th pick in draft

Price was then picked with the 35th pick in the draft by the Bucs. hmm..(They went heavy at DT that year.)

Here is his profile after the combine in 2010:

He came out of College with what seemed like a pretty ugly pelvic injury, but played for the Bucs in 2011. Seems as though he had problems with Raheem Morris and was traded to the Bears in the 2012 offseason, only to be cut before the 2012 season began. That could be a red flag there, but it was the Bears with Marinelli as the D- coordinator. If Marinelli cut him last September, but now wants him back, I have to wonder about it.

I bring this up for 2 reasons.

First, he was thought highly of only 3 years ago. The Bucs did the same thing with Price that we did with Lee and Carter. A 1st round talent slid because of injury. Now it didn't work out for them, but he may turn out to be a player for us.

On the flip side, the 2nd reason I point this out. If he is not worth much, it just goes to show how much of a crapshoot the draft is. Guys like Richardson or Williams could end up being no better than Price.

Just something different to chew on for the next few days.

I'm rally curious and even abit excited about Price's potential.
But I have wondered about the Marinelli/Price situation, if there is one.

We don't know for sure that Marinelli wants him back.

Price was already under a basically no risk contract before Marinelli was signed.

I expect him to be All-Pro and both the NFL season MVP and Super Bowl MVP. Anything less and CowboysZone will declare that it was Jerry's fault.

Realistically, I'm hopeful that he can contribute as a rotational player and challenge for a starting spot as some point.

The fact that he tried out for the Bears (Marinelli's team) and Vikings last year and wasnt signed, really lowers my expectations.

I forget who the Vikings have these days, but the Bears were pretty stacked on the DL.

I would approach the offseason like he's not even on the roster.

I don't have any expectations for him. Until I hear either that the team loves him, or he gives me anything to be excited about, he's just battling to make the team right now. I've got other DTs in the same boat I actually like better at this point.

Considering that he was cut by two teams that run Dallas' current scheme, including the coach who is now in charge of his position, Price is probably wondering how bad his luck can be.

Oooof! You're right about Price being signed before we brought in Marinelli. Well that lowers expectations quite a bit.

He was signed at the end of December.
Oh ok, then that's why I missed it.

I remember reading about the guy signing with the Bears...and he had an interesting backstory.

But as a player, I haven't really heard anything good about him.
