:starspin As me being an ex-lineman i kno
that it is easier to run block than it
is to pass block. When you are pass blocking
d lineman get to punch at you etc where as
when you are run blocking the o-line gets to maul the d-line

i feel as though we should run more because when the d lineman are getting mauled they become tired. But when we pass all day they dont really get worn down.

In other words, moving your feet fowards is allways easier than moving your feet backwards so i say the more you run the better the team will do:starspin

Your explaination makes excellent sence but the problem is the Cowboys are not getting off the ball and are not creating holes, that is why they are not running the ball the way they should.

So what your saying is that we should run the ball more, even though we can't run block, so that we can pass block better even though we can't do that either?

we can run block... your not going to get perfect running lanes every down man

You do got to try to run the ball more consistantly but if it isn't working you got to try a way to scheme so it does. More draw plays, screen-plays to Barber will help open things up.

exactly and i think it would make the lineman have more stamina

From what I have seen and the explainations that I have heard is that the lineman are leaning and are not driving the defenders off their blocks. Instead of collapsing the defense, it's been the defense collaspsing the pocket and hitting their gaps.

since when do you find fast 350 pound men wearing pads

They were a dominating O-line that started off 3-0. The play calling along with mental mistakes has killed this team.

I think the reason the OL has been underwhelming from the git-go this year is because they are dense, stoic and unmotivated. If they gave a damn they would play better.

JMO.

I hope I'm wrong here but it seems to me that their biggest problems are lack of determination and lack of a positive attitude. The OL averages 327 lbs. and they're getting beaten and beat up by 285 lb. bullies. If these guys are pro-bowlers, it is an indictment of the selection process.

How did the Cowboys start off 3-0? They dominated up front. They drove off their blocks and FINISHED!

What made them lose the last few games? Not getting off the blocks and not finishing. Add in penalties and turnovers and you lose.

How to fix their problems? Simple..... Get Barber running, short passes to barber and Witten to get Johnson comfortable. Once you get into a grove, the O-line and the rest of the offense will get some confidence and they will start to come into their own.

Sadly I am looking at the reality that Sparano was better then we thought and that Houck no longer is a top O line coach.

We have a 4.9 avg when you include the explosive Felix Jones who we know doesn't need holes to gain 5 yards.

Marion Barber on the other hand who the last two years have gained 4.8 YPC, is average just a mesely 4.2 YPC.

For a big powerful OL, a back like barber should not be averaging 4.2 YPC.

4.2 ain't bad but I agree it could be better. Anderson is not opening holes like he should. They're all engaging the defender but they're not driving thru them like they can.

There is no doubt that our lack of a running game has hurt the offense. Since we give up on he run so easy this year, teams are just doubling T.O. and taking him out of the equation. Up to this point, we have not had other WRs that can make defenses pay for doing that. I'm looking forward to getting Tony back and seeing what we can do offensively with Roy Williams in the equation. Regardless, we have been letting defenses dictate what we do offensively and that can't happen. Sometimes you just have to beat the guy in front of you. A good running game is about imposing your will against the defense and staying with it. You can't give up on running the ball just because the defense is stopping you the first few times we have the ball. That just plays into their hands. Even when we had Emmitt, our running game was often held in check in the first half. The difference is we always stuck with it and finally wore the opposing defenses down. We need to get back to this.
