Ellis:
  • After playing here for so many years I never had any problems before this all happened.
  • I apologize to the fans. This whole thing was never about the money for me, I just wanted more commitment for my future.
  • I appreciate Bill finding me a place to play. I just asked for him to be honest with me, which he has been. I don't know how much I will play as of yet. On the other hand I'm not sure Jerry is making a commitment to me and waiting to see how this works out. In Jerry's defense I'm sure he is wanting to make sure his investment is worth it. I just don't want to be on the street if this thing doesn't work. I think you can rest assured that if this thing doesn't work out, I won't be here.
  • Bill has really pulled me back into the fold. I'm not sure he knows that but he has.
  • I don't feel comfortable at the postion at this point. I know they say I am doing well but after practicing a position I know nothing about Bill would understand my apprehension. I don't want to be embarrassed on TV. I don't want to let the team down. If we lose a game because of me I would have a hard time dealing with that.
  • I've told the world I was coming to training camp. I signed a contract and I intend to fulfill it. I never considered not showing up.
  • For me, this is kinda like being a rookie again. If they have a slot receiver line up over me, I have to cover him. That's not a good thing.
  • I know Bill wants to use me in situations that wouldn't require me to have to drop back into coverage alot.
  • From what Bill has said he told me he wants me fresh to rush the QB, so I don't know how many plays I will get.
  • I'm in a bit of a different position than most players. If it doesn't go good then I won't be here next year. I will lose out if this thing doesn't work out. If it does then Bill we look like a genius.
  • If you had your way, would you release yourself? That is a tough question. I appreciate Bill and what he has tried to do here, but I am not a huge risk taker so I would rather do something that I am familiar with. This has been my toughest training camp ever.
  • Willie McGinnest has been playing OLB for a long time. He didn't start learning it in his ninth year. Lane was put in the same position with Cleveland and he was let go. I think that situation more matches me.

Good guy. I hope this all works out for the best.

Greg just needs to have a lil faith in himself and his abilities.

He sounds a little like me. Even when I think I'm being optimistic, other people think I'm being a pessimist.

You'll be let go and get a lucrative contract from a 4-3 team looking for a guy who averaged 8 sacks a year. You'll be fine.

So why is it different now? Does he still want a "commitment"?

  • I appreciate Bill finding me a place to play. I just asked for him to be honest with me, which he has been. I don't know how much I will play as of yet. So it really is about money? Make up your mind, Greg.

And BTW, anyone can be on the street if "things don't work out".

Lane was put in the same position with Cleveland and he was let go. I think that situation more matches me.

There he goes again, not giving himself any credit. Kenard Lang? I think there is a distinct difference in talent, but I guess he doesn't see it that way.

It has always been said he is a selfless player devoid of ego. Maybe he needs a dose of it.

I think Mickey nailed it on the head when he said Ellis is a bit of a worry wart. It sounds like Ellis is doing well, even if he doesn't believe it.

Greg Ellis is the poster child of class.

My hat is off to him, as always.

It's guys like Greg that should be given the healthy bonuses and recognition; not T.O.'s.

Class? He's spent the better part of the last year and a half whining about the defense changing and whining about changing positions and whining that the team doesn't care about his feelings.

Ellis has been a solid player for the team, but he's worn out his welcome here. Bob Dole hopes he is the player being offered around in potential deals for a wide receiver.

I said from the get go Ellis expressed his concerns during the off-season and would come to camp and work hard and that is exactly what he is doing. He is not coping and additude or telling coaches not to talk to him he is out on the field doing what is being asked of him to the best of his ability!!!

I was starting to ease up on him as well. Why start talking about it again--nothing's going to change now.

I hope he gets traded for a position player of value as well. I also hope Bob Dole never ever runs for another political office.

Oh, I totally agree.

And by, "it's not about the money", I mean, it absolutely is about the money.

One encouraging thing?

And that, my friends, is why TO will not be a problem here. That's right, I'm making this a TO thread. Me and the little ball are out to get ya!

Once Greg makes a couple of plays he will gain confidence. Then Dallas will have two people DWare and Greg who can rush from either side of the line.
