Sigh. I am so tired of this topic.

The Cowboys, and. only. the. Cowboys., can win nothing in 16 years and still be in this conversation. There's the flavor of the month team vs. the Cowboys. This decade, next decade and the last.

It's not even something I care about. It'd be nice to not be everyone's Super Bowl every year, but it is what it is. I hate the Yankees like they're the Taliban. The Yankees are Major League Baseball and they always will be. It's the same deal with the Dallas Cowboys.

When they stop talking about them, that's when they're no longer the show. Don't hold your breath waiting for that day to happen.

I'm completely amused how every year someone wants to try and take this title away from Dallas. In one breath I have people tell me what a bandwagon franchise we are, and how much we suck for winning one playoff game in 15 years. Well.....how can it possibly be BOTH? Bottom line, the Cowboys are still the most popular franchise AND we haven't won anything recently. That speaks for itself.

Let's see how popular the Packers, Patriots, Steelers, WHOEVER would be if they had a similar run that Dallas is currently in. It wouldn't even be close. They would be the equivalent of horse manure to the fans and media.

The envy is awesome.

Me neither, in the days of parity and razor thin edges, I think carrying the mantle of America's team is a disadvantage because every team gets up for them and it's next to impossible to stockpile enough talent to overcome that edge consistently, at least for very long because the salary cap and free agency takes away too many players. Additionally, I think the fame associated with the Cowboys can get in a players head and make them think they are better than they are and I'm not sure coaches and scouts don't fall for this as well at times.

It's a bummer to me because we can't take advantage of this moniker in any way I can see to end up with more wins. Additionally, two of Jerry Jones's strengths (highest revenue team and a risk taker) are neutered because of the salary cap and free agency.

I think the case could be made that Jerry is an outstanding GM under the old rules, but is crippled by the modern system because he can't use all his tools.

I am a bit shocked by the results... not so much that the Packers lead all respondents in being their "favorite team" so much as 41% of those polled have a negative view of the Cowboys.

not shocked by those numbers. Green Bay is seen as hard-working blue collar. Very few distractions and well coached. Dallas continues to find ways to loose....is the ultimate under-achiever for past 12 years. An undisciplined bunch with players that seem better at generating page views than playoff victories. Dallas still is america team. Hopefully Garrett can restore things over next few years.

Great point. Jerry <wanting> Nnamdi this off-season and not being able to sign him was a disturbing sign of this new NFL parity.

Don't get me wrong, in the end I'm glad we didn't sign Nnamdi -- however, I'm not used to see Jerry not getting his guy. That's the part that made me do a double take.

Bandwagon jumpers.

The Harris Poll is reliable and Dallas and Pittsburgh have been in the Top 3 ever since the poll started. Consistency has been Dallas' and Pittsburgh's forte.

The Packers have slowly climbed towards the top ever since Favre put GB back on the map.

Once GB starts losing, they will fall drastically. Dallas has remained at the top even when they had horrible seasons.

True. A link to the most recent Harris poll can be found here:

Cowboys have been #1 for the past 5 years.

That's just part of the problem, he could have money whipped Namdi if he wanted to but the flipside to doing this is you cripple the rest of your roster because you limit the available cap space and then if he doesn't work out as planned or gets injured, it can take years to clean up your cap.

I'd be really wary of giving anyone a contract besides a franchise QB a cap crippling contract.

I wish we could use the American's team moniker to attract players at a discount, then I'd really embrace it!

All that matters to me is seeing my team win, I could care less what others think.

Yeah I have to agree, it is a bit ridiculous. I mean it's one thing if you want to be a fan of two teams and separate the discussion of each team on either forum. It's not like some passing comments or the occasional comment either, it's like every single post is about the Packers. You need to start putting these in the NFL zone or something if you're hellbent on flooding a Cowboys forum about Packers crap.

I probably wouldn't last more than a week if I went to a GB forum and 90% of my posts were Dallas themed.

PPP surveyed 700 American voters from December 16th to 18th. The margin of error for the survey is +/-3.7%.

PPP surveys are conducted through automated telephone interviews.

http://media.jsonline.com/documents/NFLsurvey.pdf

Are you kidding me?

"700 American voters" were surveyed by "automated telephone".

Please.

What kind of automated randomized dailing algorithm was used to pick these voters?

What was the breakdown of the regions within the country called by the program?

What factors determined margin of error?

The poll PDF states, IF YOU HAVE BASIC METHODOLOGICAL QUESTIONS, PLEASE E-MAIL information@publicpolicypolling.com. I'm emailing my questions to see if they can provide this information which should have been included with the release.

The Cowboys have always been the most hated team in the country. Ask any old timer. It's never changed.

Don't need a poll to be able to tell that the Cowboys are always going to be in at the top when it comes to America's most popular teams. Does the fact that the Packers were on a Hot streak and looking like they might go 16-0 have anything to do with people liking them?

Win or lose the COwboys are talked about constantly by the Media and other teams fans, so all of the talk of trying to better the Cowboys as "America's Team" or the more popluar team proves how much of an impact they are.

The Cowboys are always on Prime time and the 'National Game of the week' for a reason. Whether haters of the Cowboys admit it or not the Cowboys equal ratings, even when they have a bad year people can't stop talking.

Why do you think ESPN and NFL Network spend so much time talking Cowboys even in a losing streak because Cowboys equal ratings.

I have no idea about the Packers, all I know is that when I watch TV the only other fanbase that can take over the other teams home stadium like we do is the Steelers.

Does anyone find it funny that other teams fans call us "Bandwagon Jumpers", yet every year they pick a Hot team. (Saints, Packers, even read a comment saying that the Broncos were America's Team) is called "America's New team"? Calling us bandwagon fans yet trying to pick a team to be America's team because they are on a winning streak defines what Bandwagon is.

It takes a team being Hot and Winning to be considered America's New team. Anyone who calls Dallas fans bandwagon yet start liking other teams when they go on a hot streak or who call these teams "America's New Team" are hypocrites.

If the Packers or Cowboys play on Sunday Night or Monday Night who is America's Team? By that I mean what are the ratings for each team. Bet we smoke them and the Cowboys are the real america's team because most want to see the Cowboys play. Enough said.

Even if it's to see us lose people pay attention to the Cowboys.

Trust me when I say this. Polls are flawed indicators of popularity.

If you want to find out which team is really the most popular there are two indicators which cannot be denied.

1. TV Ratings
2. Merchandise sales

I guarantee you if you go searching for those, you'll find the Cowboys and likely the Steelers ahead of the Packers.

....

Well not exactly there Hos...

http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/blog/2011/11/packers-top-cowboys-in-merchandise-sales.html

And according to http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...-on-cbs-most-watched-show-of-the-week/114457/ the Packers were in three of the top ten rated games while the Cowboys were in two of the top ten. You guys did win the highest rated game on Thanksgiving.

I guess you are right Hos, Polls Merchandise and Ratings kind of say it all. Packers are Americas Team afterall. ;)

And before all you guys get your panties in a bunch, this kind of stuff means nothing to other Packer fans. A thread was made on a busy Packer board I frequent and there were eight responses. It means nothing. Nobody is tryign to take your monikor. Cowboys can call themselves anything they want. Even tho it was fun in the 90s to proudly refer to the Cowboys as South Americas Team.
