Well not exactly there Hos...

http://www.bizjournals.com/sanantonio/blog/2011/11/packers-top-cowboys-in-merchandise-sales.html

And according to http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/20...-on-cbs-most-watched-show-of-the-week/114457/ the Packers were in three of the top ten rated games while the Cowboys were in two of the top ten. You guys did win the highest rated game on Thanksgiving.

I guess you are right Hos, Polls Merchandise and Ratings kind of say it all. Packers are Americas Team afterall. ;)

And before all you guys get your panties in a bunch, this kind of stuff means nothing to other Packer fans. A thread was made on a busy Packer board I frequent and there were eight responses. It means nothing. Nobody is tryign to take your monikor. Cowboys can call themselves anything they want. Even tho it was fun in the 90s to proudly refer to the Cowboys as South Americas Team.

But, again....the Packers are only this popular when they're winning. The Cowboys are always this popular.

Let the Packers go through 16 years of futility. Nobody outside of Wisconsin will care about them.

There's your difference.

The Packers and their fans suck! I didn't need a poll to come to that conclusion.

Let's see Hos,

Packers are #1 in sales.
Packers have three of the ten highest rated games in the NFL this year.
And according to Mr Margueritaville above, now we are getting into that hate category you embrace.

yup, more evidence Packers very well might be America's Team Now. :D

Star, one thing we will disagree on is the popularity. I know there are three teams with a national following. Cowboys, Steelers, and Packers. 80,000 people on the waiting list for games, a national following, a sell out at any game they go to because of the Packer fans. Packers went through 20 years of suckage and they still would sell out their stadium and stadiums on the road.

I guess if "by exposed" you mean a national polling organization polling 700 people nationwide.

This is the outfit that conducted the poll:

http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/

I don't detect at Wisconsin regional bias in their website.

Wow...they polled a whole 700 people? Really? 700?

Man...amazing all the work they did on this.

lmao! Get outta here. This is one of the dumbest attempts ever by some website or group to drum up something out of nothing.

Poll 3 or 4 million people and maybe then I'll care what this poll has to say. But 700? LOL!

Hilarious.

I'm not talking about selling out their stadium. I'm talking about national popularity.

How popular were the Packers before Favre? Nobody outside of Wisconsin cared. They weren't winning.

You're making a comparison right now of the Packers at their absolute peak in performance and the Cowboys after 16 years of winning nothing. And then acting like it's a fair comparison. Of course you're popular now. You just won the Super Bowl. You're 13-1 and headed for another. Who can't be popular then? Try losing for 16 years and still command top ratings whenever you play. Still be at the top of merchandizing and all that.

The Packers are #1 in sales because they still sell Bret Favre ice scrapers at all the Wisconsin 7-11 stores and for no other reason.

The Packers don't have three of the ten highest rated games this year. The Lions, Giants, and Saints do. The Packers just happened to play in those games. All people who watched those games outside of the Wisconsin area think the Packers suck.

Your poll was taken in Bayfield, Wisconsin (Population 700) and there you watch the Packers, ice fish, or die. The Pack have a nice following with them.

with all due respect prior to Favre the Packers still had a national following. Believe it or don't, it is the truth. Apparently you must be young because the Packers generated their popularity with the 60s Lombardi teams not the 90s Favre teams. Again three teams have had national following for the past 40 years. Cowboys, Steelers and Packers. Not necessarily in that order.

Don't post much on your board, but this one draws me in.

I have always felt this is a moot discussion. So, the Packers are the most popular team right now. Really?? You could have fooled me. And any poll that includes only 700 people is worthless.

I think first off, there are two kinds of NFL football fans. One, die-hards like me and most likely everyone that posts on this board. And we have been fans of a particular team - win or lose. Me, about 35 years as a Pats season ticket holder. And I don't need to tell anyone what bums we were for years. Didn't matter to me. I will die an avid Pats fan.

The second kind of fan is what I am going to call casual fans. They watch, but have no real heart in the game, but like football. I would say most of those folks do not live in an area with a NFL football team and probably have never even been to an NFL game. And they are most likely the same folks who would be bandwagon fans. Just watch whoever is better at the time. And I understand that. If you are a casual viewer what team would you rather watch - bums, or a good team. But are they real fans - nah. And probably like college football (with a local team) more than the NFL.

That said, I would say the Boys have more of a national fan base than the Packers or Steelers. I cannot even imagine being a Steeler fan, to me the team I dislike far and above any other team. I am neutral on the Boys and Packers. Have no reason to dislike either team - but the Steelers, that is another story. Just something about the team, the fan base. Just don't like them. Well, I actually have my reasons, but don't want this post too be too long.

In New England, you are usually going to find Patriot or Giant fans (and those fans are slowly eroding) - obviously mostly Patriot fans. I don't think I even remember anyone as a Packer fan. There were some Cowboy fans - but the Packers or Steelers, nope. In Florida, you get a mix. There are some Packer fans because many people are snowbirds from the mid-west. Very few Cowboy fans - actually more Patriot fans here which is surprising. The local team doesn't have a big following - Tampa - and was considering going to a few games because the tickets are so low priced. But I would NEVER become a Buc fan even if I went to every game.

I think the Cowboys got a really good fan base during the glory years. It wasn't just that they were winning, but they had a certain flair that attracted a fan base. They were a fun team to watch. I have said before, I used to be a Cowboy fan many years ago before I moved to New England as a kid, and then in my 20's started going to the Pats games as a season ticket holder because I just enjoy football. The result, became a die-hard fan of the Patriots. When you go to games, I think your loyalty to a team goes up a lot. And glad I hung on to those tickets, I now make some good money off those tickets every year - money in the bank. 3 tickets on the 50 yard line. Yep, glad I still have them. Forget even getting season tickets now - not going to happen.

Bottom line, I think the Cowboy fan base will continue for a while. I also think that fan base will eventually erode unless you put a few good years together. People die off, and the glory years are not known to new fans. How does that impact the Packers that are winning now?? Not sure, but I would not call them an exciting team - more nuts and bolts. But there will always be the bandwagon fans and say they are Packer fans. But for people like us, no we are not changing how we feel about our team - win or lose.

So again, I think this is a moot question. Not important to real fans of the game and their team. And it really is meaningless. So, some poll says xyz, does it really make a difference?? I am sure there are fans of every team - as it should be -

Actually the 90s must have been a nightmare for you regarding Dallas. The 3 playoff and or championship game beatings we handed you cheese heads in the 90s must have felt like a rotten cheese infested industrial strength rat trap. Fun? Maybe for us.:shades:

I have a couple of family members that are Packers fans. I will be so glad when this team sinks like the Titanic. :laugh2: My nephew tried to rile me up all day today by slamming my Cowboys. It didn't work. My mom gave me a tshirt with Romo, Austin and Witten on the front. My smart alec nephew said, "Looks like they are choking". And then there is the neverending "The Cowboys will never win anything until Jerry Jones is gone" blah blah blah. I told my nephew that the Pack will have their day when they aren't a top team in the NFL and I was going to remember what he said about the 'Boys.

your nephew sounds a lot like some of the Cowboy Fans posting here on the zone. Don't hate the messenger.

And I am sure in the 90s when the Cowboys were winning every title imaginable you were just soooooo nice and never poked a little fun at the Packer family fans when the Cowboys would put a dagger in the Packers playoff aspirations. As they say, payback is a *****.

You would be WRONG about that. It's not my style. :)

"Don't hate the messenger" doesn't apply here. As you can see, I added the laughing emoticon, so it's not that big of a deal. He's very annoying but hate doesn't play into it. And, he was a newborn back when the 'Boys were winning SBs.

LOL, Ok. So if I am reading this right, "it is not your style" will be your style when the Packers falter and the Cowboys are winning titles again. OK. Got it.

I am sure it is just good natured needling. I am having all kind of fun with a couple of Bear fans from work. Of course they are calling me an "arrogant Packer fan." Beating them four times in a year including the championship game on their turf deserves a little heckling. hehe.

You're a Packer fan? No wonder you thought it was funny.

The thing is, this kid and his father (my sister's husband) are from the Dallas/Fort Worth area but are Packers fans. They have been for years. In fact, I went to a Super Bowl watching party at their house. My BIL is not obnoxious about it at all. Can't say the same for their son. And, you're dang right. I will be giving him crap when the Pack tanks. I haven't before, but I will now.
