Here's a breakdown of the key players and their recovery status:
  • Trevon Diggs: Diggs is recovering from a cartilage issue in his knee that required season-ending surgery and started training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list. He's reportedly ahead of schedule in his recovery and aiming for a September return.
  • Shavon Revel Jr.: The rookie cornerback suffered a torn ACL in college and was placed on the non-football injury (NFI) list at the start of training camp. There was optimism about his return, but he has experienced a setback and is now expected to miss another 6-8 weeks, making him unlikely to be ready for the season opener.
  • Josh Butler: Butler tore his ACL late in the 2024 season and is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
  • Caelen Carson: Carson suffered a hyperextended knee during training camp and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.
Impact on the Cowboys secondary
These injuries significantly impact the Cowboys' cornerback depth. As a result, DaRon Bland is expected to be the top coverage option, and the team recently signed Christian Matthew to add depth. The team may also need to rely on other players like Kaiir Elam who has reportedly been performing well in camp, and may need to consider further additions to the position.

Recently, Dallas Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones addressed the status of Revel. He praised the young corner, while dishing out an honest assessment of where he's at with his knee recovery.

"We just think the world of him," Jones said on San Antonio's Sports Star. "We really think he's going to be a hell of a player in this league. But we're on that same thing (as Trevon Diggs) of when do we think we'll get him back."

There isn't a concrete timeline in place for Revel's return. It will reveal itself over time, depending on how Revel's knee reacts to an increased workload at training camp. Jones is confident that Revel could soon be back, but he places a one percent chance on himself being wrong.

"I'm 99 percent sure he'll be back in the next couple of weeks," Jones added, "but then he's a rookie, so it's going to take a minute for him to get used to it and what it's like to be a pro and those types of things."

Dallas Cowboys cornerback Caelen Carson will be out of action due to an injury he suffered during training camp. Per Todd Archer of ESPN, Carson suffered a hyperextended knee on Sunday and will be out for four to six weeks.

Archer mentioned the cornerback position has been hit hard with injuries, as the Cowboys have been without Trevon Diggs, Shavon Revel Jr. and Josh Butler. DaRon Bland returned to the Cowboys on Monday after missing about a week following the birth of his son.

Elam has been the best CB in camp. They just need a third until the injured guys are available

If Dallas can some how get Diggs back early, I like our top 3 corners with this pass rush. Diggs and Bland are interception kings and Elam has first round pedigree as a corner.

Jones' last injury update comes at the cornerback position, where the team is hoping that Trevon Diggs and rookie third round pick Shavon Revel can return to play soon. That said, both of their statuses for Week 1 remain in question.

"I don't have any confidence because I don't know. I don't know that anybody does," Jones said when asked if he was confident Diggs and Revel would be ready on September 4. "But I'm pleased that they are making progress, I can say that, and that's from the trainers, which would indicate that they're communicating that."

Another player who is working on a comeback is former All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs.
Diggs is coming off a second straight season that was robbed by injury.

The Cowboys are hoping the two-time Pro-Bowler can become the player he once was. According to Patrik Walker of the official Cowboys website, Diggs is doing more than just rehabbing to get back on the field.

https://www.yardbarker.com/nfl/arti...prior_to_return_from_injury/s1_16709_42551522

Walker shared on his X account that Diggs can be seen at practice talking with 2025 third-round selection, cornerback Shavon Revel. Revel is also rehabbing from an injury he suffered in his final college season with East Carolina. Having a veteran presence like Diggs willing to help with a young talent shows the maturity the franchise desperately needs. No NFL team is ever going to be 100% healthy when a season begins. But it is good to know that the team is still learning and willing to teach even when they can't be on the field as a healthy participant.

The first qtr of the season is gonna be tough. If we can get past that it’s gonna get better. But it’s gonna be really important the offense gets rolling game one, put up touchdowns and keep us in games

....Diggs has turned into head case. Might of traded himself off the team already.

I'll be surprised if he plays at all this year.

The CB room is a disaster. It's not like any of these guys that are hurt are GOOD even when fully healthy.

IF Diggs can comeback and Bland returns to his top form, then our CB room will be the strongest unit on the team. Even better than our WR group

Bland is the ONLY decent CB on the team and he got burned a lot last year. Diggs has always been overrated and all these other guys are total bums. One of the worst units on the team. Andrew Booth? Troy Pride? bhahahahah! What a disaster.

Diggs was over rated; but at his best he is at LEAST a top 10 CB
Bland at his best is arguably pushing TOP 5.
how many other teams can say they have two TOP 10 CBs?

Elam, Thomas and Mukululu all show some promise; Revel we will not know much about until mid season
Cason is the only guy I expect nothing from; he got thrown into the fire last season and I bet his confidence is shaky at best

Don't forget to pick up the 5th year option on Waletzko. His contribution to this team is, shall we say........immeasurable?

Nobody and this team doesn't either. You are fooling yourself into believing something that isn't true. This CB room is awful. They need to bring in a guy like Gilmore to sure it up.
