What exactly is Portis' injury? Does he have a high-ankle sprain?.. that's kind of what it sounded like they were describing last week, but I haven't heard anything since.

You don't think Portis in the lineup helps us?

The numbers tell a totally different story, but I suppose you could be right. The way the Skins playcalling has been I won't be surprised if Portis gets 11 carries for 27 yards.

:)

No, no, that's not what I meant. He's an excellent back, and you're definitely a better team with him playing. He's just a weird person.

I *don't* think he'll be able to change the outcome of the game next week on his own, though. I think ya'll are in for a beating at home at the hands of the Cowboys that will basically end your season, and maybe send your coach back into retirement.

Yea, they didn't have a full slate of practices last week and I would think that they'd want a full complement of weapons (Moss, Portis) practicing with Campbell if he was going to start.

Besides, they won't put Campbell in the position to finally play in an NFL game against a top 5 defense. Say what you will about Dallas' defense but they don't make many mistakes (save FS). Not the recipe for success that Washington fans hope.
Is Dallas top 5? I thought the Giants game would have destroyed that opportunity.

You know in all honesty i hope the Commanders pick up their season after Dallas, I don't want them in position to nab Brady Quinn or.....oh wait, that's right they traded away their draft picks, never mind, they're welcome to go 2-14.

What's with the asterix? Is "Commander" a verboten word here?

Yea, you never know. Gibbs might want to step off the ledge if he loses at home to the Cowboys.

Yes...Portis sat out practice today with a high ankle sprain. he actually had a cast with a boot on last week during their bye week. Normally it takes about 3-6 weeks to recover from a high ankle sprain, depending on the severity. Remember thats the same injury Julius Jones had last season and he was never the same until an off season of rest.

Moss has a strained hamstring and also has not participated in practice. The Commanders have been somewhat quiet about how serious his injury is but I would suspect that he will play. But hamstrings are very tricky and a player like Moss, who depends on his speed, he could do further damage to it if he comes back too soon.

Brunnel has bruised ribs and was held out for pre-cautionary reasons more than anything. He will be able to wear more protection around the rib area and should be ready to go on Sunday.

Carlos Roger (CB) did not play in the last game because of a broken thumb but will play with a cast on his thumb and should be able to play on Sunday. He was able to participate in practice.

All will play.

I think you can count on that.

I'm not afraid of any of their players. Portis is very good, but he's only really hurt us one game.

I feel that we've held Moss in check aside from two gaffes.

Brunell is really struggling right now. We need to hit him and hit him often. If he just stands in the pocket, he'll kill us.

Their defense may present some problems. Romo will be blitzed like crazy. The Panthers blitzed, but they don't rely on the jailhouse blitzes that Washington runs. With Springs back, I think we'll start to see some jailhouse blitzes on Sunday.

We'll have to weather the storm the Skins will bring in the first quarter. If we are able to control the tempo at the start....then I think we may win this one easy.

But it's Skins/Cowboys...anything can happen.

Injury Update

Okay, Coach Joe says it's too early to determine Sunday's status for most of the injured guys.
Brunell says he will practice Wednesday and is good to go for the Cowboys. Campbell split snaps with Collins today and had the bulk of the work last week. But Gibbs says the rotation on Sunday will be the same - Brunell 1, Collins as the backup and Jason as the No. 3.

Portis's ankle is still not 100 percent he said. He did some work on lateral movement but is unsure if he can practice Wednesday. Coach Joe syas there is a 4 day plan to try to get Portis back, but it's not clear yet if he will be able to practice Wednesday.

Moss says his hamstring is still a problem. He's had a history of them, and says that he is averse to pushing early in the week. Reading between the lines from his body language was not too good.

Randle El took limited work with his heel injury. He told me he didn't do much and the heel does not feel right when he runs. He expects to be able to do more Wednesday.

Lemar Marshall missed practice with his ankle problem. He too will have to be watched closely all week and will take it day-by-day as to how much or how little he can do.

The Skins don't have to put people on the official injury report until Wednesday afternoon. Tomorrow is basically off for the players, save for treatment, and some meetings.

Right.. that's what I was thinking.. I mean.. I'm sure there are different severities but you don't come back in two weeks from a high ankle sprain and be effective.. 4 weeks seems to be the usual to be somewhat useful.

I guess we'll see..

Even if Brunell has all day to throw, the only thing he is killing is his career. :banghead:

And then on the other side the skins really do have all the problems they say about us, but gibbs, snyder and cerrato get a free pass.

Dan Snyder is the friggin Devil to the sports media. I don't think I've ever read a single positive thing written about him ever.

it's pathetic to not want to use a derogatory term towards Native Americans?

Yes, because the word is not being used in a derogatory manner. In this case, it is held in high regard (by some). By using the term Commander, the city is paying homage to Native Americans. Only people trying to stir up crap have a problem with the name. Really, this in not a difficult concept.

In other words, you're making a political statement, which is verboten here.
