» The remaining playoff teams will not be allowed to spend money this offseason in free agency if there is an uncapped season. The final eight teams in that scenario are only allowed to replace players they lost, not just add new players. They will need to think of new ways to improve their rosters

So let's say Spears is let go in FA.

Does that mean we can sign Seymour to whatever we want?

Spears won't be going.

He'll be considered a RFA.

****.

But is that how it works?

That would be pretty disgusting if we had Seymour.

One major point that is often neglected is that the new "Final 8" rule for an uncapped season does not cover signing players who have been released (salary, age, behavior) by their prior teams.

We will need to lose a free agent before we can sign one, and the first year salary will have to match, but we can immediately sign any released players we desire.

Each team gets an extra transition tag also, which further degrades the pool of potential FA's.

The most interesting scenario would be the potential for guys getting cut by teams who are looking to shed contracts and not get hurt by cap-dead money.

Those folks would just be released and wouldn't be considered FA's, not in the sense we're talking here. And they were be available for teams like Dallas and the other remaining 7 playoff teams.

Whats the deal with releasing players?

Do their salaries come completely off the books with no cap hit?

ALA Ken Hamlin.

So in reality, there could be alot of good players out there that get released because of contract size?

Brilliant...........penalize the teams that built the teams the right way in the salary cap era so that the morons like the skins who circumvented the salary cap and still have nothing to show for it can go on free spending.

Great idea.

When do we know for sure if next year will indeed be an uncapped year? Is there a deadline?

Suddenly that uncapped year doesn't sound so appetizing does it? I have been trying to explain that for months.

The flipside is that that with FA now being 6 seasons instead of 4 and with each team getting an additional transition option to use, you'll see a lot fewer guys becoming FA's.

Then you have the ability of teams to simply pay their upcoming FA's lots of money to stay with their original clubs.

I just don't think you're going to see a lot of true FA's out there this offseason.

You'll see a lot of guys who are cut due to their contracts, but not true FA's.

have you seen the UFA this year?

It's really not that great of a deal.

Most of these UFA will be washed up by then anyways.

If anything, it rewards the teams that have drafted or will continue to draft well. Instead of 4-5 year contracts and becoming UFA, they turn into RFA and can be kept longer. Also, you can just resign your great draft picks for however much you want.

We could give Ratliff a huge payraise and lock up Austin without any worries.

I was never a fan of a uncapped year. I think it's bad for the sport, bad for the fans and as much as I could give two flips about Buffalo, it's bad for small market teams.

You make it sound a lot better.

Exactly right.

You've had so many of the mindless on here clapping their hands in unison for an uncapped season...

Well that pie smelled better than how it actually tasted. ;)

Yes.

No salary cap would mean no signing bonus pro-ration to account for.

We could cut bait with anyone we want.

But I wouldn't look for it.

We've got a nice team.
