Redzone concern?

What needs to change? It seems they're knowing Zeke and/or Dak will run it in. It seems we can't throw a TD in the RZ.

I think we need some bigger TE packages and get them involved. Your thoughts?

I remember a certain QB that used to throw INTs in the redzone........frustrating as hell!

Philly is a great RZ defense. But yeah we are not good in general in the RZ. Scouts say Amari is a “between the 20s” type receiver so we may have to look elsewhere. Maybe Brown could be that go or one of the TEs?

Look at the good teams, LAR, NO, KC, CHI, etc. They are creative in the red zone. Shovel passes. Bunch formations with WR screens (like PHI did to us at the 2 yard line). Jet sweeps and jet sweep action. Tackle-eligible passes... the answer is not simply "run the damn ball." It is "be creative" and make the defense have to think a little.

Redzone is a major issue...IMO more option read run plays, PA off of it, maybe add the reverse. Its also not Daks strength to be in the redzone and force him to fit tighter windows or place it nice over the shoulder.

Amari can score inside the 20, you just have to figure out how to do it. Also you have a 230 lb runningback with great speed for his size, figure it out!

Our red zone offense consists of..........

- A bizarre first down play

- A run or bad pass from the QB on 2nd down

- A 4 yard dump off to Elliott way short of the end zone on 3rd down

I don't think we have any originality in the RZ. We're obvious on every play. Look at the adjacent defense, they're bunched up on First down. Second down they move to Zone. Defenses almost know mathematically what we're doing next.

I think the qb needs to get creative on his own in the red zone. don't just necessarily run the play that's being sent in. if he sees something he can exploit, call an audible. between zeke and our wr's, we certainly have the talent. exploit the defenses weakness.

Missing Dez and Witten.

Successful Red Zone Plays 2016-17 (receptions only)
Witten 16
Bryant 12
Beasley 10
Butler 3
Elliott 3
Williams 3

It's no wonder Garrett keeps trying to coax Witten out of retirement. I can imagine him telling him, "You never had a defense like this..."

Run the damn ball is the solution.
Not really. Cowboys lost more than half of their RZ pass offense (Dez and Witten) and it's putting the heat on Zeke.

Success Rate
Elliott's runs inside 10-yd line
2018 31.6% (6 of 19)
2017 65.0% (13 of 20)
2016 66.7% (16 of 24)

We need a receiving threat to open that up again.

We just need to execute. Running the ball not the solution. I bet we average less than two yards on runs inside the 10 and lose yards a lot of the time. Yesterday we ran a read option for -2 yards.
