Just a theory, but I feel like Reeves' input on these issues had more to do with the breakdown than some stupid "Hours Clause". I really don't think that's what Jerry wanted to hear, and Reeves was not about to start tickling his ears when it comes to the Cowboys.

Me neither, this smacks of egomaniacal Jerry spin control.

Notice how this puts the heat on Reeves.

Until I see the contract, I call BS!!

Jerry has done nothing in the last 20 years to earn the benefit of the doubt when it comes to dealing with strong willed coaches.

Yep...! I agree. If not just T.O., it has to be something else....but I would bet this was a sticking point.

Since when does releasing Owens "free up cap space"?

I read something that the Cowboys would open about $600,000.00 this year if they did indeed cut TO. Don't know if it is true or not, but that is what I read.

Cutting iOwens should be a no brainer. The fact that this is still being debated concerns me. If Jerry Jones keeps his "pet", his team will implode. When it does, good look picking up the pieces. Your quarterback may never recover, and your team will be gone. Jerry Jones "likes that stuff" (or the circus aspect of it). We'll he might want to think about the health of his about $ 1.5 billion dollar investment that is the Cowboys and that new stadium.

Are the Cowboys going to let Miles Austin fly or not? Austin has a #2 skill set.

Roy Williams just got # 1 money. Is he going to just be "Robin" to iBatman? Roy Williams didn't get "Robin" money. You gave up a 1 and 3 to get him.

Even if Williams is a #2, 2 young number 2s is better than a pushing 36 year old, declining player who thinks the world or offense should revolve around him. That is not counting his divisive nature and cunning ability to isolate his quarterback, offensive coordinator, and All-Pro tight-end from the rest of the team when he blames them for his declining play.

This is the way I see it when you look at what has been reported:

Stephen Jones
Jason Garrett
Wade Phillips

I think they want iOwens gone.

I think Tom Ciskowski would vote him out.

What is the hold-up?

Jerry Jones

That is the way it looks to me.

I still believe, deep down, that if Jones is isolated, iOwens will be gone.

Gee, this isn't a BS article or anything. It's the exact same Reeves quote where he says he doesn't think they've determined Owens's future yet, but it becomes "Reeves says T.O.'s days are numbered."

Reeves didn't say T.O.'s days are numbered.

So Tim MacMahon, a MEMBER OF THE MEDIA, um, LIED.

But wait, I thought people in the media weren't allowed to lie? Isn't that like, illegal or something?

I doubt it. You don't come into an organization talking about who you're going to fire. Besides, T.O. and Jerry Jones are aware of Reeves' comments. I'm sure Reeves would have given T.O. the benefit of the doubt before making a recommendation - if he even had the authority to do so.

How do you bring in someone like Reeves and not expect changes? For Jerry even to consider this, he must have been willing to eat some crow on decisions he's made over the last decade.

Sure all the reports say he was going to answer to Jerry and Wade, but come on. The dude has some serious clout in this league and is extremely good at what he does.

I'm not saying he would not have eventually addressed the issue had he stayed. I'm saying they didn't talk about it while he was there.

You generally don't do that when you're a manager or consultant coming into a business. You FIRST evaluate the business to determine whether your preconceived notions or what you've been told are correct.

I doubt in the limited time he was with the Cowboys Reeves started talking about cutting T.O. That really doesn't make any sense, and that's not how these situations generally work.

Is that why Reeves went on a media tour practically begging for his job back?

And BTW, Dan Reeves back-tracked on TO, saying that his originaly statements were made before analyzing the situation. He also referenced Duane Thomas as a precedent of a 'cancer' that could be controlled, provided there were strong leaders.

He also said, per some, but I have yet to see it, that when looking at the run game, it was obvious that TO made it better, including his blocking as well as his presence.
