Refs have been and continue to ruin this game

I expect a fine on the Romo hit. Maybe they should fine the refs for poor calls.

before the colts game, I woudl have said because the ball hit WEstrbook, that nullified any faircatch call. However, the same thing happend in the colts game. I guess if you are a blocker and are dumb enough to get blocked into your PR, then it is legal.

The explanation in the Charlotte paper was by the ref: He stated that if the 2 players are BOTH attempting to block each other then there is no foul. However, he said that if the player is just standing there, for instance, and the other player pushes him into the guy making the catch then it is a penalty. Pretty crazy!

The refs ruin Bball. The refs ruin the NFL.The refs even ruined 2 playoff baseball games this year.Baseball is the only sport that isnt consistently ran by the refs, unfortunately its a tad boring to watch.

I am not just being partial to the Cowboys game that was completely controlled by the refs.I watched a lot of football yestarday and the refs have completely taken over the sport.Last night two horrid roughing the passer calls on Manning gave them a TD basically. Its making this sport a mockery, its ashame.Almost unwatchable at points.

Refs are only doing what the NFL rules committee puts into place. This is like shooting the messenger. I think the Refs have tough enough job without the leagues rule committee putting more judgment calls on their backs.

I agree, it's terrible.

And Temo and peplaw are right -- it's not really the refs, it's the powers that be in the league who have gone overboard about protecting players. I know part of it is that they want to encourage offense because they think that's what fans want. (Puke.) And I think part of it is that they're afraid a player is going to get killed out there -- literally -- and they're going to face incredible public scrutiny and lawsuits.

Exactly. It is like a cop he does not make the speed limit he just enforces it. That is all the refs are doing is taking what the league has put into place and being told now enforce it. I think people have a legit reason to be upset with some of these fouls but I think their anger is directed at the wrong people.

Then lets say the Rules Committee or the whole general referees group. From a to Z.

I think if anyone in this room had to go out and do the jobs the refs are being asked to do they would see a bit more clearly how tough that job is. The rules committee puts these less than black and white rules in to place and now we expect the refs to carry it out?

The refs are graded on a weekly basis and evidently the league office does not have an issue with the job they do so where does the problem exist? To me it is simple it is with those who make these rules not the people who try and enforce them

Of all the bad calls I caught during the games I watched yesterday, this one still remains one of the worst of the bunch in my opinion. It was so typical of current officiating that I had to record it:

My favorite part is right at the time the refs break their huddle, but before the ruling is announced. The head ref turns on his mike and you could hear him telling them, "I got this. I got this."

My question is, "What the hell do you have???"

The refs blow a lot of calls.

I think part of the reason is that the rules are overly complicated.

REFs are part-timers unlike NBA and MLB. In fact a ref used to work as attorney in a building I used to work in and they have regular jobs until the weekend.

Once they have full-time refs it could make it better but the owners don't want to.

The reason refs hurt teams so much in the NFL is that a team has no chance to overcome it. Like in hockey and lax you can kill of a penalty, in baseball you can get the next guy out (most of the time), and in basketball at least they have to get the points from the stripe. But in football teams just can't overcome the other team being given 15 yards. 15 yards is almost a quarter of the field. There is no penalty in the rest of sports that equates to that IMO.

Who ever said NBA and MLB refs were any better?

yeah, it's become very much like wrestling (the outcome already decided)...

the non-call on helmet-to-helmet (romo) was pathetic. the zebra saw it; he just didn't want to call it.

The ref was throwing the flag for pass interference but the ball was tipped making the hit legal. Another ref threw a flag for taunting.
