I as disappointed as anyone when it comes to his lack of receiving production in 09-10.

But the player we saw in preseason and training camp still remains there.

This is a young player. Only 3 years of football in college. Two years pro. His blocking has already gotten much better. His route running will improve. He isn't a 100% full time starter, so his reps aren't as much as you would probably like them to be, and he is going to go out on receiving patterns even less.

But the key is developing him into a threat.

When he does he will help this offense come to fruition.

I want to say the same thing about Roy Williams. We've seen flashes of him being very productive.

I think we jumped the gun on him, but I want to temper my disappointment. Give them ever so much more time to get in a rhythm.

We should at least be happy that the production is going up.

Our system might just have to evolve with the players we have in it.

Another question is what are we expecting every player to produce?

Austin, Witten, Williams, and Bennett can't all have 1000 yard seasons...

Obviously, so in Bennett's case it's quality over quantity.

Can he make plays? Can he move the chains? Can he be an effective target in the red zone? Can he improve his route running and regain Romo's confidence in him? Can he line up in the right spot and catch the ball when it is thrown to him?

He seriously regressed his 2nd year from his 1st in all of those things last year. If he can at least return to his rookie year levels it will restore some faith in his potential.

He doesn't need to have a 1000 yard season, he just needs to show he can do the job that is asked of him in the receiving game as well as he does it in the running game.

i think the real problem, to me anyway, is a set of fans will lock in on any given "bad player of the day" and just not let go. trying to talk them through or around any given issue only makes them dig deeper into their "dislike" for a given player.

there's a lot of things i don't care for about marty, but i'm not worried about his production on the field. we simply have more than enough players to give the ball to and a 2nd string TE isn't going to get more chances ahead of 3 WR's, 1 other HOF TE, and a talented backfield of 3 RB's.

so since these fans can't see his production "on the field" they want to trade him off the field to still "do something" with said player.

then we have the whole advent of twitter/facebook where we now get to see these players thoughts minute by minute and then it's treated as if it's a final say, not casual convo.

face it - how many twitter/facebook posts have you seen telling you what someone is having for dinner? how "lucky" they are today" come help their "Mob" kill someone? that they're about to go see a movie?

i would think we filter that out. but let someone like roy williams or marty bennett say something, it's ammo baybee. even though they're saying the same casual stuff everyone else says.

it's almost as if the internet brings news to us so much faster than news actually happens, we have to make up our own news to "feed the fire" and that's just annoying to me.

as for bennett, i think he's fine. a little immature at times maybe but we all grow at our own pace. if i don't think he's funny i won't listen to his jokes, not rag on him for not being funny. as a player i think he's still got a lot of potential and i see no reason to give up on him because some people put a target on his hiney for their own reasons.

different strokes i suppose.

I'd be happy if the following occurred:

Austin 1300 yds 16 TDs
Witten 800 yds 8 TDs
Williams 500 yds 5 TDs
Bennett 500 yds 5 TDs
Crayton 400 yds 4 TDs
Phillips 200 yds 3 TDs
Hurd 150 yds 2 TDs
Ogletree 150 yds 2 TDs

Then the RBs get:

Barber III 600 yds 8 TDs
Jones 800 yds 6 TDs
Choice 500 yds 3 TDs

Romo will sneak for 2 TDs, and Colombo gets 1 TD on a tackle eligible.

The defense will get 4 TDs, and special teams will get 3 TDs.

There will be 16 field goals.

And that tranlates into a 30 point per game average.

Bennett has no one but himself to blame for his problems. If he would drop all that twitter BS and concentrate on his job as a player then there would be no problems. This other BS about him being young is just an excuse. Its all up to him and right now he is not taking it seriously enough. He will find out the penalty for that if he has not figured it out by now.

oh come on now. we can filter out everyone else on those places BUT those you don't like? THEY have to stop using what everyone else is using people people who read it take it further than it was ever intended?

so if posting in public places is a crime and deters you from focusing on your job, ergo making you a bad bad person, shouldn't you get off a public forum and go concentrate on YOUR job?

people that demand football players do their job 24x7 are just flying way low of reality.

And if you can't see that he is apparently unable to do both and be a top player then that is your problem. When Jerruh personally calls you out in public about not being dedicated that is a serious message that so far seems to be lost on both you and bennett.

who said it was lost on me? you just make up things as you go?

i said people pay too much attention to every little detail as if it's the holy grail of what you need to prove your point. if bennett can't do both then it has nothing to do with twitter but his own self-discipline and he would simply do something else you couldn't see, but i'm sure you'd hate just the same.

hate hates. trying to figure out why seems lost on it.

ive still got faith that he is gonna get it together and becamoe a major threat. He says dumb **** off the field, but i still think he is gonna be dangerous in the near future for us and open a whole new can of worms for defensive coordinators.

I disagree, there have been 6 players on this team that have publicly griped about their situation or the fairness of coaches or schemes over the past 3 or so years, and four of them are gone. The other two are mentioned above, and they have both been outplayed by late round/undrafted players who shut up and put up. It's kind of obvious why they get a hard time from fans IMO. Roy to his credit, has been fairly reserved, and there is almost no way for him to address what an epic and costly bust he has become, but Marty brings this unwanted attention on himself.

You make it sound like these guys are being unfairly scrutinized for their failures with some mythical cult of hatred. Williams the vet, is unlikely to improve in his 8th season. Now I agree, MB might turn out to be a solid player, but sycophantic need for attention before he has accomplished anything is a troubling behavioral trait. He be just fine if he kept his mouth shut, most people would give him the benefit of the doubt. But his focus is off, and it shows in a big and public way.

so, how do you put up as a #2 TE behind witten when we're already upset our #1 WR doesn't get the ball enough? do you want to take plays away from witten, austin, the rb's???

maybe i'm one of the few but as long as it's legal, i don't give a hairy hiney what the players do off the field. so marty posts stupid stuff on facebook. NEWSFLASH - 90% or more of what is posted on facebook is stupid so by odds there's a 90% chance of what he posts being stupid.

just like the rest of us. but since we know him and he didn't score a dozen td's last year, we hate him and must put him to a different standard than ever other stupid out there.

people hate. sorry if this is news to you but they do. when they hate, what's ok for people they like to do suddenly becomes wrong for people they hate. why? they hate. you excuse what you like slam what you don't.

that's human nature. you make it sound like i'm reaching on what *we the people* have a tendency to do.

if his focus is off he'll see the door soon enough but there's a $ investment that's been made no amount of whiney arsed posts will ever change this year. but the posts will keep coming. why?

people hate.

now, i don't deny people put targets on themselves, but the people who take shots at those people seem to put the onus of *why* they do it on the player. the player isn't me and i can control what i do. so if you want to go rag on someone for posting on facebook or twitter, go ahead.

i just happen to think it's moronic and just a part of the IGS kicking it into another gear.

Bennett had a horrible completion percentage and Jerry called him out for his work ethic. People aren't diappointed in him for no reason. He's obviously got a lot of natural talent as evidenced by his rookie season, but I have my doubts whether or not he will reach his potential. I hope he does, because that would be another weapon for Romo.
