Remember our game vs the Colts a few years back

I was @ that game, the colts were undefeated; was a hellva game!

Side note: I bought my season tickets from a guy who had them since 71', they were on the 45yd line bottom deck. Every game I noticed that the seats directly above me had someone from the opponents organization in them. I met the Giants personnel director, etc. that season. Anyway, I took my wife and kid and nephew to this game and told her about having VIPs setting above us. When we got to our seats, there were two ladies decked out in furs and diamonds with two little girls in tow. I told my wife to find out who they were. The conversation goes like this:
Wife: So do ya'll come to alot of games?
Lady1: Yeah we try to come to them all.
Wife: Is your husband a player?
Lady1: He's the quaterback.
Wife: Thats nice.
Wife whispering to Me: Who's the quarterback of the other team? :)

Long story short, Mrs. Manning and her sister-in-law were really nice and down to earth. I kept trying to get my 7yr old nephew to get Peyton's niece's number. ;) She said the team had stayed up parting the night before b/c it was a players birthday (I can't remember who). It was a trip watching her husband get the **** beat out of him with her!

Man, we played great on defense. I remember our guys jamming the WR's, not letting them get into any rhythm.

It was CLEARLY the reason why we won the game.

What happened to that??

Same as the GB game in 07, the level of aggression in the defensive play calling was night and day. The coaching staff knew they had to be aggressive in order to slow down high powered offenses and they let it all hang out. I dont think Wade has the stones to do that every week. His coverages are way too soft, which leads to way too many easy yards and short yardage situations. Im tired of his bend dont break coverages, they are painful to watch. Id rather give up a few big plays here and there then watch easy pitches and catches all game. We have the offense to make up for those big plays.

I thought Greg Ellis broke his leg in the Colts Game?

Anyway, why go back to 2006?

Last year the Defense was playing great until the last few games.

They played lights out in a big game. IIRC it was the first time they came out firing on all cylinders. But I agree, too long ago and too many guys are gone.
I would love to see a repeat tonight!

He got hurt against the Cardinals and from that point they went with the rotation of Burnett, Singleton and Carpenter at LOLB until Carpenter was settled on at the end of the year. Burnett had that big interception for a TD in the Colts game.

Our nickle/dime pass rush was awesome that game.... Ware, Canty, Ratliff, Ellis.

2/4th's of that is gone. You do the math.

That was also Ratliff's coming out party iirc.

I believe our defense is missing Ellis, Canty and Tank more than most fans realize.

Ellis broke his leg his 2nd yr in the league, towards the end of that season. Most people forget he played all the next yr with a rod in it.

He ruptured his achilles vs Arizona in 2006.

Not Tank, but they do miss Canty and Ellis. I also think most fans do realize it and knew it coming into the season. There just was not much Jerry could do to keep both Canty and Ellis. Dallas could not afford Canty's price tag. Ellis was just one of those weird situations.

Spencer may be ready as the starter and I think he is, but you never have enough pass rushers. Ellis would have provided good depth.

There is some adjustments that have to be made with the difference in personnel from last season to this year. Just because some guys are gone doesn't mean the defense can't learn to play without them and still be good. They just need more reps. What you see in week 1 or week 2 will not be what you see in weeks 8 and 9 or 15 and 16.

I don't believe you watched a Cowboys' game more than casually if you believe we're missing Tank.

Ellis, definitely.

Canty, not really.

I brought this subject (although not about the Cowboys) this weekend with my 13-year-old son. He plays junior high ball and was playing corner (never played it before) last week. The coaches never showed him how to play about a yard or two off the line and rough up the receiver to disturb the play. I mean, that's basic football, right? unless your guys are consistently getting beat off the line or you aren't getting any help over the top, then you should be at the line knocking the hell out of the receiver.

Our pass rush is good enough though that they won't have to hold on forever.

They need to do something to re-direct the route or throw off the timing and make the QB look somewhere else.
And im not saying every corner has to do it. Just make the corner guarding who ever you believe to be the primary receiver do it occasionaly.

We shouldn't let receivers just come off the line nice and clean the entire game.

3 step drop passes are going to hurt us all year if we don't get a little physical with the receivers from time to time.

This sounds a lot like what we said last year and much of 2007. Yet, here we go again.......

Because we dont want to give up the big play.

This. We play a "keep it in front" defense which results in more FGs than you think.

Pressure pass coverage = last nights Cardinals. You sure you want bump and run man all game?

I bet we see more zone defenses tonight than the first 2 games combined.

we're not playing Peyton Manning every game. the defensive play calls are called out of the fear of giving up the big play. basically we play scared on defense.

i think alot of you remember old football where you could play bump and run down the field and could get physical with them which isn't the case anymore.the whole not letting them get off the line clean thing only works when 1. you have the personnel that can execute it effectively(which i don't think we do) and 2. works better for QBs who rely on timing more than anything else IE. tom brady peyton manning. you saw AZ try to do it last night and got beat...thats on point one, but why were they trying to do it? thats point 2, they knew they needed to disrupt the timing to have a chance, but they just couldn't.

now yes i believe we need to jam more(like some?) than we do but it sounds like people want it all game long every play but i may be misinterpreting and i apologize if thats the case.

Man I told you guys!

Press coverage completely changed the D. Throwing the timing off and getting physical! Thaaaank you!

They weren't really doing it that much more than before....

A pass rush helps.
