Remember when Larry Allen...

Not really. It was 2005. We were 9-7 that year.

Could have been alot better too. We went into the Thanksgiving game against Denver sitting at 7-5 I believe.

Then Newman let the interception go through his hands, and we let Ron Dane out run our team in overtime, lost, and the season went down the crapper.

iwas there at that game

Ah, the days of LA and Erik Williams in their primes (although they were never in their primes at the same time due to William's car crash). Those were mean, nasty, guys that enjoyed destroying the players that got in their way. Man I wish we had some like them right now. That's what we've been missing on the Oline for some time. Guys that just destroy the opposition and do it with a song in their heart. Those guys had pride in what they did, and a LOT of it.

We don't currently have anybody on our team that hasa tough leadership skills. Unless someone sparks its not happening.

Grabbed cortez's face mask and almost killed him for missing a field goal? That's the type of leadership we need around here again. Will anyone step up?

Apparently you don't remember it too well.

He grabbed Cortez's facemask because Cortez missed an extra point and tried to blame it on Romo.

And how did that leadership help us in 2005? We went 9-7 and missed the playoffs and laid down to the Rams in the final game of the season. Yeah, some leadership.

We need the kind of leadership Michael Irvin had. Get someone like him on this team and we'll have a chance to go places.

Would I love to have someone like Irvin? Absolutely. We might have that in Dez (maybe). But, I disagree that having someone like him is what we need most. Like I said in a previous post, we need a mean, physical, nasty offensive line that forces their will on opposing defenses. Everyone remembers Aikman, Smith, Irvin, etc. on the great 90's teams, but I will always believe the true heart and sole of those teams was our offensive lines. They simply beat teams up and took away their desire to compete. Check out the second half drive in Super Bowl 28 that pretty much cemented the game for us. Our oline simply took over the game. Even though it has evolved quite a bit over the past 15 years, football (even at the professional level) is still a fairly simple sport. Out-physical the opposition and take away their will to compete. That's why our 90's teams were so good. We didn't always look great in the first half of games, but we continued to do what we do best and at some point in the second half of most games, we always wore down the opponent. We need to get some of that mojo back, but I'm not sure many pro football players are built like that these days. The Steelers still seem to find guys like that. We need to do the same.

He was a beast, literally.

Oh, yeah, but he's #98.5 on this fallacious list.

They should have named that program what it really turned out to be "Top 100 Players Not as Great as Jerry Rice."

I will just accept guys doing their jobs and following their assigments.

Grabbing a facemask won't solve many problems. If I remember correctly, that was a pretty bad team when that happened.

This. That's the wrong type of leadership completely.

The place to get in people's faces is in the privacy of the locker room and when cool heads prevail...

I love Larry ...... but a real leader would have not been out of shape every offseason.

I think Larry was just mad about something the moron said.

I love how people in this forum always think only of how a player was at the end of their career, and remember nothing about their prime.

Allen had trouble staying in shape later in his career because of injury, not because of anything else.

The guy once ran down a 240lb LB the length of the field to prevent a TD. He was the most physically dominiant, most overwhelming player in the league from 1995-2001. he was a probowl guard, moves to LT for the team and becomes arguably the league's best LT almost from the second he went out there. He was was an amazing player, and he was never out of shape in his prime.
