I actually think Roy is going to have a very good year next year, I think Witten might see some crazy coverages though.

I agree with both statements, but I think that will help keep the pressure off the running game.

With Bennett another year older, we can do more two TE sets as well. If he can make an impact, that will only help Witten.

Randy was in his prime. Heck, he just set a record only 1 season ago with 23tds's. T.O will be 36 next season, his skills are declining and he's a team cancer. Good thread but I think this slightly different.

Roy can actually come down with a jump ball though. TO could not.

All those times that we got mad at him for making a dumb decision, was him "having confidence" in his receiver to make a play. Yeah, that receiver did not make the pay. Going and getting the ball was never TO's forte. Roy can do that.

I know he can and hope he does ALOT!!!/

I just worry about separation and the big play. He should have a great year with a good offseason with Romo.

Eh, the Colts let Edge walk and immediately won it all. The G-Men lost Barber to retirement and Shockey to injury and immediately won it all. It can be done.

I look at it like this Count

less talent at WR, the more we run the ball

and like stash said, the cupboard isn't bare, teams would kill to have the talents of Roy Williams and Jason Witten on the same field

Assuming this is really a serious thread..........I see it this way. The way to keep from production dropping off is to find a way to replace TO's yards and touchdowns while ensuring that we are balanced so they don't focus only on RW. This can be done by young receivers stepping up or by the running backs stepping up or a combo of all of the above.

While I'm a TO supporter, I will say that Dallas is far more talented now than that team was when Moss left.

Talent-loaded as Dallas is though, it didn't keep them from blowing it late in the season with plays that had little/nothing to do with Owens (giving up big TDs, fumbles, ints, etc).

This team has more potential than that post-Moss Vikings team but question is whether Garrett can come up with a gameplan that won't be ridiculed/mocked by opposing defenses as "easy", whether Romo can improve decision making and ball security, and can the team as a whole improve the penalty situation.

I am a TO detractor and I agree with this completely. Although I will throw in the O-line needs to be the one from 2007, not 2008 or even all of the above won't matter.

How do we make sure that doesn't happen here? This isn't a pro-T.O. or anti-T.O. thread or about whether the team is better or worse without him, it's about what steps you think the team needs to take to make sure we don't end up in the same predicament.

For their part, they also had every reason to believe they had a franchise QB in Culpepper, failing to realize the part Randy played in his on-field success.

Might that be the case here? Will 2009 be the worst statistical year of Romo's career? And if so, will he bounce back?

As mentioned by others 1 TO is 35 Moss was younger but more important I don't think Minn had much talent outside of Moss on offense I think Dallas does have a lot of young talent and we should be getting them more involved in the offense.

I'll give you one real good comparison case that I'm sure we hope plays out the same way.

Packers with Sterling Sharpe.

His game and "I need the ball" attittude were very similar to Owens. If you guys remember he was catching like 100 balls a year. Lot of short stuff and was real good after the catch much like Owens.

He was older than Farve and somewhat controlling.

After his career ending injury, Farve's game really took off. The Packer offense was better.
Credit was given to the fact that Farve distributed the ball better and wasn't being bullied into feeding it to the outspoken Sharpe.

That Packer team had a lot of other good skill players much like our team does now. Maybe history repeats itself.

That's probably true.

As much as I'm in favor of moving him out, there's no way of knowing the impact, especially when the guy running the organization is such a flake. What I do think is a big positive is that TO is old. He can't have long left. Maybe you squeeze one or two more years out of him, but he can't cheat time forever. Precious few players have remained elite past 35.

Superior Failure, but I guess we Cowboys fans do tend to forget what it's like to measure achievements in terms of Superbowl wins

Agreed. On D, guys need to tackle, put consistant pressure on the QB. That helps the secondary.

On offense, the Oline just needs to be more dominating in the run game and do a better job protecting in the passing game.

For his part, good Oline or not, I've never liked how Romo tends to hold the ball low, loose and away from his body when he scrambles. And he needs to control that gunslinger mentality a bit. With the weapons he has, there really isn't a reason to force passes. That said, I also don't want him to lose that swagger either. But 3 years into startiing, he needs to start showing improvement.

They've had Moss for 2 years. One year, they went 16-0 in the regular season, made it to the Super Bowl, but lost. I'd call that a damn impressive season.

The other year? They lost their starting QB for the entire year and STILL won 11 games.
