Reminders to keep your feet on the ground

The bottom line is that while the Cowboys have gotten off to a good start so far, and are showing promise, this is a week to week league. Look at the Saints. Week One, they annihilate the Packers in a neutral site game after having to evacuate Louisiana because of the hurricane, and a week later look completely inept in losing to the Panthers. Whether it's injuries, hubris or an outbreak, there are many things out there that can bring a team back to earth a week after they looked like contenders.

Enjoy the wins. Just keep it in perspective.

A two game winning streak to a starved fan base is enough to start the SB bandwagon and heady predictions of the next few games and who will be matched up with in the playoffs…but it’s just now the end of September, not December.

Hey I’m excited about what I’m seeing too. Young players developing before our eyes. Defense getting turnovers. Exciting rookies and other young players with a bright future. There’s a lot of shine in the early returns and that’s good.

But we are less than 20% of the way into this journey. It’s way too early to know what this team is yet. Here are a few reminders to keep your feet on the ground:
  • When you are depending on a lot of young players, the opposing coaching staffs are going to have more tape to study and more ways to neutralize them. Patience required! How a young player plays today doesn’t guarantee that level of play every week.
  • Every game will be a war. There are NEVER gimme games in the NFL. I don’t care if it’s Tampa or Jacksonville- all games are winnable and loseable!
  • Every week presents different matchups- sometimes the matchups favor your strengths, and sometimes it’s the other way around. Every game is different.
  • There will be some unforeseen adversity- happens every year. Ultimately, that’s what measures every great team. Not how well you handle when things are going well. It’s how well you handle the adversity when it’s not going well.
Enjoy the wins! It’s been a great start. But fasten your seat belt. Just when you think you have this thing figured out- you haven’t. Enjoy the ride.

Don't you poop in my crack-pipe sir. I'm going to smoke this kool-aid and wash it down with delusional Johnny Walker blue. Life is too short to live in reality. By the way, I admire your cool headedness in the face of militant fan N.azis.

Enjoy the wins. Just keep it in perspective.

I think that ship has sailed. :muttley:

Looking at page one it seems half the team is going to the Pro Bowl, Dak is going to win MVP, and the Cowboys probably won't lose another game.

I guess everyone thinks our ownership is doing a great job now?

Great coaching , great talent . Great chemistry. Great culture . What could go wrong?
Anything, everything or nothing at all. The NFL is a weird animal.

1. they got rid of Garrett

2. they hired a better coach

3. they drafted very well and smart the past 2 years.

that is the beginning of improvement. The overall roster is better and the team is 3rd youngest in the nfl. So whoever it is making these changes. They’re doing a much better job.

That’s our ownership.

I think it’s a little early to draw absolute conclusions.

But based on the hype I’m hearing this was the thought that popped into my mind.

The SD win looks more impressive this week after SD beat KC. The defense is creating turnovers at a rate we haven't seen since Jimmy Johnson stalked the sideline. If they can keep it up, this team could go far in an NFC that seems to have no dominant teams.

I like way defense is running to the ball.

I know this defense is gonna have poor game and I know the offense will sputter at some point, but this team looks different than it has in a long time. Dak looks majestic, the D has playmakers, and it’s not as if it’s being done without missing pieces. If health obliges, this team should have a playoff bye.

...I think all the excitement is about, we finally have a football team in Dallas. :flagwave:

.....and that flawless win over Philly is all the proof I need to declare that we have arrived!

Nobody want to face this team in the playoffs
