Reminders to keep your feet on the ground

Completely disagree with staying grounded with theses massive string of victories over the toughest opponents in the NFL

Doing otherwise would require critical thinking and sanity. Delusion is what make this message board what it is......I better see multiple posters everyday stating that Rayne Dakota is Dan Marino incarnate but with better hip swiveling dances. We shall continue to overhype every win and make excuses for every loss

Anything less would be uncivilized

A two game winning streak to a starved fan base is enough to start the SB bandwagon and heady predictions of the next few games and who will be matched up with in the playoffs…but it’s just now the end of September, not December.

Hey I’m excited about what I’m seeing too. Young players developing before our eyes. Defense getting turnovers. Exciting rookies and other young players with a bright future. There’s a lot of shine in the early returns and that’s good.

But we are less than 20% of the way into this journey. It’s way too early to know what this team is yet. Here are a few reminders to keep your feet on the ground:
  • When you are depending on a lot of young players, the opposing coaching staffs are going to have more tape to study and more ways to neutralize them. Patience required! How a young player plays today doesn’t guarantee that level of play every week.
  • Every game will be a war. There are NEVER gimme games in the NFL. I don’t care if it’s Tampa or Jacksonville- all games are winnable and loseable!
  • Every week presents different matchups- sometimes the matchups favor your strengths, and sometimes it’s the other way around. Every game is different.
  • There will be some unforeseen adversity- happens every year. Ultimately, that’s what measures every great team. Not how well you handle when things are going well. It’s how well you handle the adversity when it’s not going well.
Enjoy the wins! It’s been a great start. But fasten your seat belt. Just when you think you have this thing figured out- you haven’t. Enjoy the ride.
Great advice

<------- Guilty as charged!! In fact, I was thinking about this yesterday. I'm feeling really excited about this team this year, and well, I feel like I've seen this story before. So, I do try to stay grounded, but at the same time, this is what it's all about being a fan. I'm always ready for a letdown but I think it's just fine to feel excited and have hope for this team.

I have hope man...........I have hope!!

I always harp on, it's not how you start but how you finish.

Bullet, while that is great and sage advice, I say balderdash!!! Turn yourselves loose in a SB fever pitch and the visual of his players carrying McCarthy off the field in victory and followed by off season hernia surgeries.

What Bullet suggests is saving yourselves from disappointment but if you are not used to that by now, you shame Pollyanna. So, he doesn't want you to get carried away and then come crashing down, come back here all pissed and rowdy and looking to take it out on your fellow members.

But I say get carried away because how often are we here? Anyone here think the defense would be leading the league in takeaways and picks after 3 games? Hell no, I am basking in that right now, not later when that might not be the case. But I am liking me some Mighty Quinn.

The OC, QB and offense look ready to take on any team and we are the most balanced team in the league. And we'll be getting back some missing pieces soon.

The one thing that gives me pause before sending my parade route map to the Dallas City Council is that pass D. Those 6 picks are butt savers and not every QB is going to serve those up.

Let me pass on some advice from one of the older members, wait, that's me. While I am not the oldest, I am the least deserving of reaching this ripe old age and let me tell you one thing I've learned, do not wait to celebrate, do not wait for it to get better because it might not. Happiness is hard to come by and find every little thing you can to achieve that and eat dessert first.

"He flew high, so high he could touch the sky but he finally came crashing down,
It was their dismay to see him this way but at least he knew once he had flown".

There isn't much rational about being a fan. Unfortunately I will get high and low, and it's pretty much out of my control. At least in my old age I've kept myself out of trouble post loss, for the last few years.

It's good advice nonetheless.

Right now I just want to see this team string together wins and I look forward to game vs top contenders and by no means see them as loses but a great opportunity to show we are legit. I welcome those game and I sure as hell hope the Cowboys welcome those kinds of games because if the goal is to be a championship team you better be able to compete and contend with those teams.
Amen. I certainly don't fear this 3-0 team we are about to play.

Team needs to stay ground, fans should be excited about winning games. When I can't enjoy a win why bother watching? Things like post season and SB is not something I spend much time thinking about and won't until likely after Thanksgiving. But when game day rolls around and the Cowboys win you bet I'm going to be happy and thrilled and when I see a performance like last Monday where offense and defense were making big plays I will be even more excited.

I am taking it a game at a time. Yes, I looked at the upcoming schedule and played the what if / we should game.
Then I got back to focusing on what can they do against Carolina.

I have never feared any game. When you play vs a top team you know there is a chance you could lose that game. This week the matchup with Rams and Cards that is going to be a good game but one team will lose. However if within a season you have say 4 or 5 games vs top ranked teams if you can pull off 2 or 3 wins then to me that shows you are a contender.

When I read the thread title, it reminded me of Casey Kasem's top 40 count down....he would always end the program with the phrase, "keep your feet on the ground and keep reaching for the stars".

...I think all the excitement is about, we finally have a football team in Dallas. :flagwave:

Absolutely..

After all, we are talking about the Cowboys and their legendary luck......how does the song go?.... "If I didn't have bad luck, then I wouldn't have any luck at all"

They have a GM that personally destroyed two potential dynasties and can't wait to screw up the team we have right now. Just wait until the next round of contract talks.

We had an elite offensive line with three 1st team All Pros. How many teams lose a 28 year old All Pro to a rare disease?

We've had a 1st round draft pick who broke his neck in his 2nd professional game (Billy Cannon)

We've had a 1st round pick with gifted speed (Mike Sherrard). His mother was an Olympic gold medalist. Broke his leg in training camp in his 2nd season. Just before his 3rd season he's jogging on the beach and breaks his leg again.

The Cowboys spend two #1 picks to get Joey Galloway so they will have bookend #1 WR's. First game as a Cowboy? Out for the season.

And when are these injuries and protocols going to end???

The Cowboys have played in 10 NFL Championship games, two of them pre-merger. They lost every game that was decided by 7 points or less. The Patriots? First three Super Bowl championships won by 3 points. Heck, every Super Bowl won by the Cowboys had to have a double digit margin.

They used to say that God's favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys and I believe that. You want to know why? Read the bible. Whenever you read the words, "and God loved....", you know this guy is going to be eaten by lions, crucified, swallowed by a whale, his old lady turned into a pillar of salt....God goes out of his way to prove he doesn't believe in favoritism. That goes for the Cowboys as well.

Now, I realize we aren't the Lions. they have been so historically inept that fans of other teams actually feel bad for them. However, it's not a complete lack of success that defines the Cowboys bad luck, it's how close, so very very close they get before it is snatched away....

The Catch, The 4th quarter of Super Bowl 5, Tony's fumbled field goal attempt, Aaron "Freakin" Rodgers, the closer the Cowboys get, the more it stings.

.......Wow.....that all just kind of came out...been holding it back for years....I actually feel a little better now....sorry 'bout that.
Go for it, Plastic!

its not really the two game win streak

its the defense actually looking like a nfl defense that has us in the clouds and its just a good feeling

but i agree with everything youve said its just nice to see us look like a professional team for once even if its just 3 games
there are only 4 teams that have given up more yards. They made big clutch plays against Philly but lets not go putting any DC D players in the pro bowl just yet

maryquality, here's your long distance dedication. "50 Ways to Leave your Lover" by Paul Simon, dedicated to Dez Bryant.

unless they've just fallen off the turnip truck Cowboys fans already know better,,, most of us are waiting for the other shoe to drop.
