I heard Penny Hart has been turning heads in Senior Bowl practice all week. Some are calling him the stand out player so far. Currently projected as a slot WR.

Cole is as good as gone after his not so well thought out comments. Do you think this kid is a good fit for us? Any other potential WR's you have your eye on in this draft?

When Dallas replaces Cole Beasley, I hope they get a receiver that can take the top of a defense. Also, Dallas needs a receiver that is not just limited to the slot. I thought that Cooper could have been utilized more in the slot if Beasley was not so limited. Cooper is the focal point in the passing game, not Cole. Also Cole looks dismal on special teams. The next WR has to be able to contribute on special teams as well.

Attributes for a prospect:
More Speed,
Larger catch radius.
A player dedicated to the craft of football.

It will not be terribly difficult to replace Cole Beasley’s stats average over his 7 years in Dallas- specifically in 103 games played here, Beas averaged 3.1 catches per game for 32 yards. Even the last 5 years, his best as a Cowboy, he only averaged 3.3 receptions and 35 yards per game.

I liked Cole Beasley’s contributions here but honestly his stats speak pretty loudly that he’s a good, but not great receiver.

I don’t like the idea of using Austin. The injuries make him undependable and he will likely want as mush as Beez.

Replacing him is one thing but getting someone Dak will use as a security blanket is gonna take time. He chemistry will be missed.

I'd put Cooper in ths slot if Beasley doesn't come back
Not exclusively. IMO replacing Cole will not be a hard task because I feel as if Cole is just a guy. From what I am hearing Penny is killing all the DBs in practice in the Senior Bowl. If available I would take him in the 4th.

If they sign tavon austin again he is the return guy.
He crushed Seattle in the playoffs with returns and had 1 called back....
Really hoping Kellen can get him involved more . He us dangerous in space

Gallup to the slot wastes his abilities
Putting cooper there puts a lesser player outside
The slot is much more important than some think
I’d find a guy with the short area quickness it takes to be effective there who can also help in the return game
I’d cut Twill and Hurns and add a guy in the draft and move on from Beasley
I like Beasley and he’s a good player but he’s also 30 and doesn’t help in return game
If I had to use 58 to get the right guy I’d do it
Beasley had 65 catches last year so he was productive

Exactly! He’s already used to that role from his time in Oakland and a few of his big plays with us came from that position (the catch against the Skins, one against Seattle’s slot CB and the TD against the Rams come to mind).

Replacing Beasley should give us a chance to be a more explosive offense by adding another big body on the outside who might be able to help out in the red zone too.

What remains to be seen is how this new OC will attack and moving receivers around for the match ups will be key. That slot WR isn't about a quick smaller player that seems to fit that position but who the DB is across from him. Can the Cowboys get the 3rd CB on their WR in the slot? They can win that 95 times out of 100.

One of the dumb things this offense has exhibited for years is the refusal to use multiple receivers in the slot. The rams, saints, chiefs, patriots and many other successful offenses use all receivers interchangeably.

When DCs know you will never use Cooper or Gallup in the slot, it makes their coverage plans much easier. One of many reasons why the Cowboys have been one of the easiest teams in the league to scout and game plan for.

Bease has a year left on his contract, he wont be going anywhere this year, we can worry about his replacement next off season.
