Well, I debated whether or not to post this since he does a pretty good job of putting me in my place and I'm very fragile mentally...

But, if I'm going to post the open letter to him, I might as well do the honest thing here and post the reply...

The great thing about being a columnist is that I don't have to present both sides, only the one I believe in. That's why the column carries the label: "In My Opinion." Yours is a good as anyone's, but next time, don't scold me about shoddy journalism. I suspect I've been in the business a lot longer and know a little bit more about it than you do. You should start with Journalism 101 and work from there.
thanks,

Ha, ha, the twerp did not even address what you wrote! He just tried to defend his journalism...

When you do something like the above, it means he cannot answer your letter!

I guess you did not get the gist of the guys reply.

When you are writing in a feature called...IN MY OPINION you do not have to be an objective journalist.

There are differences between Opinion Pieces and regular articles.

Not that I agreed with what he said in his piece but there is a difference.

Honestly, don't let it bother you. These guys all have chips on their shoulders. Sure, he was right in his reply but he didn't have to respond like such an ***!

Seriously, it doesn't...

I'm very amused by it and if I was bothered I wouldn't have posted the reply and face the criticism that's sure to follow...

Plus, I told him that I didn't have time to take a journalism class as I was too busy wasting my undergrad years taking History...

Personally I don't think his response was that bad. Too many times people like to scold the evil media due to their shoddy journalism, but none of them have taken any classes in journalism.

And basically what he's saying is while Hunter offered a well-written email opinion, he offended Reeves professional sensibilities.

To be honest, journalism classes in college are a joke. Of course, that's just my opinion. ;)

Depends... I earned an MA in journalism and found the classes quite interesting and challenging.

Good grief, Reeves makes it sound like a journalism position is an elite achievement. It just isn't. Not that it's undesirable or uninteresting. I remember in college the counselors always swayed athletes (who presumably were seeking the easy road as they pursued their athletics primarily) toward either phy ed, criminal justice, or journalism degree plans.

I can imagine journalists do tire of dealing with countless emails from everyone when the writer's views don't express thoughts/opinions similar to their own. However, the 'start with journalism 101' bit was just laughable in this context.

I would hope graduate level work would be challenging. Undergrad on the other hand...

I would be shocked if most athletes could pass an English class.

One thing to consider with Reeves.

He actually took the time to respond, even if it was not a nice response.

Oddly enough I have found it seems like the ones that seem to have the meaner type reputation (Galloway and Hansen) are the ones that seem to reply, where as some that seem to have the nicer reputation do not.

That is just from my own exp.

I mean I think Galloway and Hansen are one of the cranker whinier ones out there but they have always taken time to respond to me.

There have been times where we even have had multiple replies over an initial email.

If you are nice to them, they don't respond. They only feel like responding when you take a shot at their ego.
