Report: Bryant off draft boards of 10+ teams

does an awesome #3 win us a superbowl this year?

That's the motive in jerryland.

At least I firmly believe that.

HOnestly, I think so..i think that is our biggest hole right now..WR and Safety are 1 and 1a on my list of needs

the reality is, this team is pretty well set..there are not many positions in which a rookie is going to come in and instantly contribute..

WR and Safety are 2 of the very few positions that a rookie can come in and make a difference at

Dez Bryant would have a bigger impact on this team than any other player you can select..the only player that can even rival him is Earl Thomas and that is questionable..

again, not including the SURE FIRE top 5 picks

Earl thomas would easily rival DB. Look at our current FS situation and look at our wr situation. Dez would be a luxury pick imo. Id take him though if there was scraps left at 27 and he's there.

Get ET and my boy mccluster and your primed for mutple sb runs.

We need a safety and a kick returner equally to me.

We don't need receivers, we need our guys to step up, some new kid wouldn't be anymore security than what we have now.

Unless, like I said, he can return the hell out of a kick, then I am cool with dropping one of our already proven guys for him.

the reason why I said it is questionable is because Thomas definitely has the ability but he may not reach it..I think Dez Bryant is more likely to reach his ability than THomas

If it really is that hes just dumb as a rock then maybe you do take him.

By all accounts hes clean off the field and wont get suspended, I guess Ill deal w/ a goof if he can be a big time Andre Johnson type across from Miles for years.

What do you mean by " a bigger impact than any other player " ?

Reason I ask is because, yes, more than likely, whichever lineman we can realistically select there ( with the exception of Iupati ) will probably be a back up. That includes defensive lineman too ( IF they go that route ). As a matter of fact, just about any position the Cowboys select with that pick will most likely be a bench player, including wide receiver.

Now, Dez Bryant presents a whole different set of problems in that the Cowboys wouldn't draft talent like him to sit him on the bench ESPECIALLY if there's no football next season. That would ****** his progress considerably and wide receivers take long enough to develop as it is under normal circumstances.

However, this takes us back to square one:

who do you get rid of to make sure Bryant is sufficiently involved ?

Do you cut attempts to Austin ? Witten ? Williams ? get rid of Crayton altogether and automatically insert Bryant as your 3rd receiver ? If not ( which would be the wise thing to do since this is a SB contending team ) , then forget about getting Felix Jones and/or Tashard Choice involved in the passing game ?

And how is Marty B supposed to get better if, once again, they throw his way 30 times in an entire season ? What are you going to do with Ogletree ? Kick him to the curv ?

I personally think he would come in and instantly take over the #3 WR position and if Roy Williams doesn't get his act together I wouldnt be surprised if he was starting by the end of the season..

So that means you have to get rid of Patrick Crayton.

In the scenario Dez does fall, and they do take him, and he performs well, then yes you can trade Crayton at the dead line.

I dont think Marty will ever progress into much b/c we have a young HOF'r ahead of him whos made of steel

How can anybody judge a rookie from barely 6 games into the season ? I mean, look how long did took Miles to develop and WHAT it took for that to happen..

The opposite is also true. Even he starts semi-hot, what makes anybody think it's going to continue when the weather turns colder and/or he hits the preverbial rookie wall ?

Who's going to trade for Crayton in October ?

If Bryant is drafted, more than likely, Crayton is either cut or traded shortly after because there's really no use for him on the roster. And that would be a mistake, imo, for a SB contending team. When the playoffs roll in, and with an offense like the Cowboys, you're going to need that vet 3rd receiver guy who might not catch more than 1 or 2 passes per game if that, but those 1 or 2 passes are game clinchers or key chain movers.

Kelvin Martin, 1992 NFC Championship game against the 49ers, for example. Alvin Harper's catch and run was instrumental, but if Kelvin Martin doesn't catch that 3rd down pass AND scores, the Cowboys would have, at best, tied the game which wasn't a sure thing ( the extra point after that TD was missed ) and the 49ers would have had a chance to come back and tie the game instead of the Cowboys putting it away.

I dont think Marty will ever progress into much b/c we have a young HOF'r ahead of him whos made of steel

So you give up on him ?

I mean, if the Cowboys don't want to get him involved in the passing game that's their decision, but then nobody can complain about him not " doing anything ", as in not putting up stats.

angle about drafting Bryant:

Wouldn't that be a subtle message that they have very little confidence in Roy Williams and this is, more than likely, his last year ? OR, and this might be a consider an act of treason: they're not planning on signing Austin to a long term contract?

If they're planning on keeping RW long term and/or have confidence in him improving, and they sign Miles to a long term contract, there's absolutely no room for a guy like Bryant in the offense. He's not cut out to be a 3rd receiver long term ( he's either a #1 or #2 ) and the Cowboys would be foolish to spend a #1 draft pick on a 3rd receiver to begin with.

Percy Harvin made plays from day 1 as a rookie, some elite guys could do it.

Im not even a huge Dez guy. All we go by are conflicting reports and different peoples interpretations of how he interviews. The situation you laid out where he excels and theres not a ton of balls to for guys Marty or Crayton is very much preferred.

You could hang onto Crayton but odds are we are picking up a returner anyway so hypothetically we have drafted a new starting WR and have a new returner. At that point moving Crayton would make some sense. I think even at 31 hed hold some value as a durable, sure handed, vet WR w/ return abilites, and experience.

We all have a pretty good feeling of where the RW situation will end up. It sure as hell looks like hes just not going to perform well enough to earn his contract. And I really dont care if the hot new rookie hurts his feelings. If Dez is Andre Johnson like Mayock and some are saying then we might just take him and stop babying RW and Marty.

I disagree.

Witten can finish drives just fine, and I don't see a new kid replacing Witten in tony's head when it matters.

I think Witten had a horrible year last year, by the way, at least for him.

Witten had 2 TDs last year, 4 in 2008. His best year was 2007 with 7 TDs, and 2003-2006 was 1, 6, 6, 1.

Teams expect us to go to Witten in the end zone and they shut him down. Another threat would be good and would provide some depth. If Roy or Austin are injured, the rest of the current pack are JAGs (you can argue that Roy is playing like a JAG, too).

If Dez Bryant, Taylor Mays, and Bruce Campbell are the 3 best names at 27 I take Bryant so fast heads would spin.
Me too...and it's not close.

I say get Golden Tate....

Amen.

If we got Tate, I wouldn't even care about the rest of the draft. I'd be happy as a pig in ****
