What’s been rumored for the last six months is inching closer to fruition: CBS Sports is currently engaged in high-level talks about purchasing a large chunk of the NFL Network, multiple industry sources tell Inside Blitz.

CBS and the NFL Network partnered a year ago to televise Thursday Night Football, but insiders are now saying that deal was something of a “trial run” to see about a larger partnership, which appears to be on the horizon.

CBS declined comment.

Three sources say that CBS Sports could potentially acquire 40% or more of the NFL Network, and both sides see it as a win-win for all parties involved. It’s unclear if there’s a timetable yet for the deal to be completed. One source said before next season begins; another said if a deal is reached, the partners would wait to make a “splashy announcement” ahead of next year’s Super Bowl.

As soon as CBS gets this deal done, they should bring in their own talent scouts. Whoever hired Darren Sharper and Warren Sapp does not have a solid track record. Prior to finding out he was a serial rapist, I could understand Sharper. Well spoken and good looking. But Sapp? Fat, greasy slob who was impossible to understand. I have a feeling the executives at the NFL Network are jumping for joy that Sapp made it so easy to fire him.

Even though they tossed Deion after about two years, they had marshmellow Shannon Sharpe for a long time, so they're not appreciably better.

My guess is that with CBS doing their online stuff this will make it closer to having some sort of online distribution of the NFL Network.

As a CBS stockholder, I am happy if this comes to fruition. Does it include Redzone? If it does, I hope CBS doesn't mess with my Redzone.

Whoa, an indulgent Christmas and lax keeping of new year resolutions got you touchy? Sapp had many faults being a scumbag was one of them. His girth played into his obnoxiousness. I cant say if he was greasy or not.

I'm not a fan of Fox's coverage whatsoever. I like some of the broadcast teams, but that's it.

Never understood how a fan of an NFC team could prefer CBS, since they're very AFC centric. And boring. My god, their broadcasts put me to sleep. I don't see how you can beat Howie/Jimmy/Michael/etc. as a panel and the annoucing teams Fox has.
