Report: Cowboys' Mazi Smith may be dealing with struggles beyond field

zim and Jeff Zgonnia need to get Mazi alone in a room and have a heart to heart with him and get this kids mind right first and foremost. Some players need that fatherly figure to find out what makes them tick and push the right buttons. Hes gotta get healthy first.

I remember the video of the guy who bought Mazi’s abandoned storage unit. You’d think he’d have enough money to keep up with a storage unit. That was a red flag he may be going through some stuff. Hopefully they can get him some counseling and/or a mentor to help him through. It would be a mindscrew being that young with that much money and under this much pressure. Hopefully he’ll get better physically and emotionally prior to the season.
He clearly has the money to afford the storage unit. This is not your regular 22 year old.

The question at that point is why? Was he overwhelmed and missed it? Was there a reason why he wanted to let all of that go?

The new DC hasnt coached since 2021, on a one year deal, about to 68 years old. He was never better than Quinn
You don’t understand football is football. It’s about controlling the other side of the ball. Zimmer’s got years of experience in the NFL and being 68 just makes him better. I know you like to crap on every aspect of the Cowboys but FYI, it’s a bad look for you.

Basically it sounded like Broaddus was hearing (hinting at) Mazi lacked the mental makeup to be a number one pick of the highest profile team in sports and play under the brightest of lights. Further the disappointing play led led to an emotional downward spiral that fed on itself as the season progressed. That is what it sounded like Broaddus was getting at to me.
That is pretty cynical. If BB out of the building is noticing, the Cowboys organization noticed too and first. They have a program specifically for that type of circumstance. Will it work? i won't hold my breath but I doubt he is in the wind with no support. Mazi is in the building every day now after all.

Oh boy. It’s incredible how much this FO hasn’t learned from neglecting this position.

I guess you never heard of the game passing coaches by lol yea, I guess Zimmer is immune to that lol

If Mazi doesn't make the jump this season, we're screwed.
The minute we let Hankins walk....we were in trouble.

The good news is....the Rogers kid may be just as good as what you were going to get out of Mazi anyway. Still looking for that complimentary guy....wouldn't be surprised we bring in a vet.

Then what are your expectations for tje run d if Mazi isnt successful?
The run D? You said "If Mazi doesn't make the jump this season, we're screwed." and that's simply not the case.

I have no idea what the run will look like this year. JMO I think it will be better with Zim and much better LB play. As far as Mazi goes, if he plays poorly or if he plays pretty good won't be the determining factor of the overall success or lack there of the Cowboys.

Most fans don't get it.....they never broke a sweat or wore a jock strap! Lol

Yea, Mazi is supposed to be a big part of the run D. He's supposed to take on double teams so the LBs are free. We have nobody that has proven they can do that if he doesn't step up

He has not proven that he can so what difference does that make? He is not dead and is in the building with the team. We have Rogers and other bodies.

He got hurt. It is football.

Like his stance, Mazi is having trouble getting up in the morning.

Thats why i said he needs to step up, and it's pretty big if he doesnt. Rogers is a 7th round pick, not depending on that guy

We won 12 games last year with a porous run defense already. The sky has already fallen.

We have been asking our DT in Quinn's own words to "stop the run on the way to the QB."

Zimmer his entire career asks 1-3 DL on early downs to line heads up and take on a block which the run defenders can read off on top of everything else. With Qunn's everything upfield all the time that was impossible.

Osa, Fehoko, and Golston can all 2 gap. That was what Mazi was good at at Michigan.

Let's not forget the LB corps. Kendricks, Overshown, and Liufau(sp?) all have much better size to take on blocks alongside Clark.
