Report: Cowboys players growing frustrated with Jason Garrett, coaches

The Cowboys were saying in 2013 they were going to copy some aspect of the Patriots offense. And it wasn't just using the 2 TE set but their terminology as well. JG was definately trying to copy the Pats in 2013. He failed miserably.

Here is a twit from that time. Erhardt-Perkins offensive scheme is the one that Charlie Weis ran in NE.

And here is an article by Archers from 2013.

"IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys made it clear they will become a two-tight end personnel team after the draft.

Jerry Jones invoked the New England Patriots when discussing the scheme following the selection of San Diego State tight end Gavin Escobar in the second round. The Cowboys also had Notre Dame’s Tyler Eifert graded as a first-round pick.

With Jason Witten (who is coming off a 110-catch season), James Hanna and Escobar, the Cowboys are in position to attempt to simulate what Tom Bradydoes with Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez."

I remember that.......................and you are right, it was an EPIC FAIL

I would be surprised if members of the team were not down on the coaching staff, primarily Garrett.

Chaz Green was hung out to dry and embarrassed during the Atlanta game. Post game he stood in front of his locker and took all the heat.

I don't know how Green is perceived in the locker room but players see this and they have to be mad. Having played football their entire lives they've seen many instances where players had to be given in game support because they were simply over matched.
The fact that Green received none and then was removed mid game was very unfair and they know it. Post game coaching comments of the next man needing to 'step up' didn't help the situation.

Combine that with the scheme issues that we have been discussing endlessly and justifiably and i'm not the least bit surprised that there are issues.

Here's some more fuel to the fire. While Chaz Green stood there and took all those questions, Scott Linehan gave a "no comment" and ran.

Now, you tell me if that's the kind of coach you want to play for?

We were already a two tight end offensive team. We ran that similar offense for four years with Parcells.

Callahan called plays in 2013 that is where the falling out with Garrett Happened and why he wanted out.

Mad at Green not getting help, but probably also mad that players take heat and accept blame but their head coach never does.

There are more to the Patriots system than just using 2 TEs. There were several articles during 2013 that talked about how JG was going to incorporate some of the Erhardt-Perkins scheme into his. Things like terminology that makes it easy to run a no hurdle, 2 TEs, etc..

I'm aware of what was reported based on what jerry said. I also remember the friction with callahan and garrett over the offense that year.

You thought we didn't copy NE because we were using 2 TE system with Parcells.
I'm just pointing out that we did try to copy some aspect of NE offense in 2013.

we didnt copy new england. We were playing a two tight end heavy offense from day one under parcells and never changed it. Parcells offense used the tight ends differently but we didnt try to copy new england and I am tired of hearing people say this.

And whether or not we actually successfully copied them isn't what is important. It was the intention by JJ and JG and the corresponding wasted draft pick of Escobar that is the real issue here. AND it is more proof that this team lacks the Xs and Os talent that other teams bring to the field every week. Our players are recognizing that their opponents have a coaching and game plan advantage and they have to perform twice as good to make up for that disadvantage.

yes i know that was a big story from jerry.

I never bought it then and I do not now. The team has been playing with two tight ends in this form or fashion since Parcells showed up in 03.

Maybe they changed terminology or philosophy a little to add something new england did but I have never heard any players talk about that.

it has always seemed pretty odd to me that Bill Callahan and Jason Garrett who did not coach in that scheme or with anyone from it were all of a sudden going to run it when they have spent all their time in coaching doing something else.

It wasn't just Jerry mentioning it in 2013. I remember seeing others from the organization mentioning it.

Ian Rappaport is just one of the vultures that sits around waiting for a Cowboy to pick his nose so he can report "breaking" news.

Here's a scoop, Ian:

When some NFL players are on a team that experiences a losing streak they get frustrated. Some of them aren't mature enough to accept accountability and committing towards working harder to improve. They have to point fingers and this is especially true when they are being pushed by a reporter like you

So Ian circled around until he found a vulnerable young player that grumbled a few words. That turned into "players are frustrated" if you even trust that Rappaport got that from a player, which I don't. If we have learned anything this season, it's that the sports media loves sensationalism when the topic involves a popular player or team and they could care less about proper perspective, proportional response and stating the facts instead of speculating on very limited knowledge and information.

Everybody is frustrated, that's one of the significant side effects of a losing streak. A combination of the loss of key players and a general lack of focus is what brought the Cowboys to this point.
