Unless this is a situation where the Cowboys know he won't be the same player or pissed off the wrong people like Amari I don't see much purpose in cutting him loose. He carries around a 12 million cap figure this year and 9 million in dead money. So you really only gain 3 million in savings or 4.5 as a post June 1 cut.

I know there is an injury guarantee coming due which may be prompting the discussions, but I rather keep him see if he rebounds then make a call in future years.

The problem is that Jerry won't draft QB's when he needs to. He's stuck with the "good enough" attitude and never seems to be proactive, instead always being reactive. We should always be developing a potential starter just in case and instead he bargain basement shops for undrafted QB's as backup...or already proven either failures or over the hill QB's as backup. This limits the team if a key starter goes down, practically torpedoing the season and giving Jerry the injury excuse for why the team failed. He also makes colossally bad contract decisions and folds like a lawn chair, letting terms get dictated to him by players. The contracts are often so bad, there's no getting out from under them as no team would trade for those players if the Cowboys decided the player wasn't living up to their contract.

Then the Cowboys leak that they're looking to trade said player and if not might cut them. That hamstrings any potential trade as a team knows to wait until Jerry gets desperate or wait until the player is cut. Jerry and Stephen are absolutely incompetent about this sort of thing because they refuse to shut up when they need to be quiet. They love the microphone.

Speaking of the locker room and it's window... The window is shut. It's time to reevaluate because they had three chances to do something in the playoffs and screwed the pooch three times. Clearly something isn't working. But they like their guys and refuse to ask themselves the hard questions. There's been two common denominators in the past 30 years...both are named Jones. That SHOULD tell them something but it doesn't.

All those reasons you provided are to enrage the fan base...it's not incompetence. Jerry uses the Cowboys to stir drama amongst largest fan base in sports, Ala Fox News style. He uses Cowboys to drive media assets.

Jerry obviously takes the helm at calling shots in the playoffs, I assume through NDA's, and sabotages the team.

Getting bounced in playoffs is the goal, not a trophy...it causes the most outrage.

Jerry has guaranteed profits with Cowboys, he knows this, and has parlayed that with media assets to line his pockets.

Just watch for the free entrainment and highlights, getting involved with any team is asking for a let down.

I'll still watch, too...for highlights. I have no emotion in them losing close playoff games or blowouts. I'll get excited at good plays for the Cowboys and wish them well...but it seems the boys have been sacrificed for money. Sad really.

Defense had SF backed up and that one was a long pass play in the middle of the field to Kittle. They arrived almost at same time and Diggs just ducked and kittle made a stretched out catch where diggs could have knocked the ball out.

He did drop a sure interception at the 5 yard line and then SF scored...

I disagree on not being able to get a pick for him. It may not be as high as fans would want, but I think some might be willing to part with a 5th or 6th to avoid having to compete with other teams for his services.

What team, just to clarify, do you believe would trade a draft pick for a player that has not healed from his most recent surgery? And isn’t expected to before September. Wouldn’t a team want to see what he’s physically able to do before offering any draft picks in trade for him?

Your position is solid, but each case/trade is looked at individually WITH your position in mind. Looking at every penny or having a rigid approach to trades can leave yourself missing out on some good players. It's risk/reward.

At some point/draft round I assume NFL draft picks become fodder like how in the NBA teams do not value 2nd round picks at all, so they trade them like pennies.

Also, Diggs has tape of being decent, if not really good, when healthy. A 5th or 6th round pick for a potential shut down corner, if the team has cap space, seems like it's worth discussing. I get the contract size angle to your argument, but I assume there are teams that are 2 years away from a window opening, with cap space, that might entertain this deal.

I also understand the "just wait till he's cut" argument...but that allows the argument of a team willing to gamble on a 5th or 6th to not let another team get Diggs in the portal/waiver wire or a bidding war.

You cut him loose now because we have an out in his contract right now. It saves us money and we have more needs to fill than keeping around a guy with two knee injuries and, frankly, wasn't playing at the level of his contract anyways.

Trading for him means picking up his contract as is. Dallas would have to send a team draft picks to get them to take his deal…even if he were healthy. He’s destined to be a minimum compensation player having to prove himself worthy before signing for more. He won’t be ready for training camp, so, ironically, his best shot would be a team needing his experience during the season because one of their DBs is out with an injury.

He’s an example of why you sign for as much as you can every time you sign a contract to play in the NFL. Bad things can happen to good people. Just like it is for the rest of us.

Yes but the savings isn't that substantial and works out to 3 to 4.5 million depending on designation. That doesn't buy you much more. Next year the cap savings would be more substantial and have 3 million less in dead cap so a more critical decision then. It just seems like almost a wash so why not see how he rebounds?
