It's about time...................... There are zero "givens" with acquiring AP. I'm sure the Boys and Vikings are secretly talking but there are ZERO givens.... Peanut gallery out.

Cowboys Director of Player Personnel Stephen Jones told Fox Sports' Mike Fisher that Murray is going to see what the open market is like and then talk with Dallas afterward. Jones added, "Deep-down he'd love to stay."

Ed Werder of ESPN reported that the Cowboys will make Murray a "respectable offer." Werder also reported that Dallas hopes Murray will give the team a chance to match any offers to the running back.

Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports broke down some estimates and other factors regarding Murray's contract situation, including the following:

The fact no premier running back has signed an extension off of his rookie contract since 2012, when Marshawn Lynch, LeSean McCoy, Arian Foster,Ray Rice and Matt Forte led the way with deals that averaged $8 million to $9 million per year and paid roughly $30 million in the first three years -- money Murray believes he deserves.

He's not coming back

Someone will pay him more than we will be willing to match

The Cowboys utilized the franchise tag Monday onDez Bryant, leaving reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year DeMarco Murray's Dallas future up in the air.

Based on his understanding of Murray's situation, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport cautioned on Monday's edition of NFL Total Access that there's a "slim chance" Murray will return to Dallas once the free-agent market opens next week.

It's rare for a player of Murray's caliber to give his former team a chance to match a lucrative offer once the new team has the star in the building.

If Murray does defect from Texas, how would his market shape up in the era of the devalued running back?

Rapoport rattled off four teams as potential suitors:

1. Indianapolis Colts: General manager Ryan Grigson has $40 million to spend and a need at running back after swinging and missing on Trent Richardson. They are a lock to add a running back this offseason.

2. Arizona Cardinals: Like the Colts, the Cardinals have also been mentioned as a potential landing spot forAdrian Peterson. Arizona learned the hard way thatAndre Ellington isn't built for workhorse responsibilities.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars: Signed to take over the backfield a year ago, Toby Gerhart is now ticketed for a jack-of-all-trades role, including H-back responsibilities. Denard Robinson showed potential last season, but his boom-or-bust style is more suited to a complementary role. The Jags have more cap room than any other team.

4. Seattle Seahawks: The Seahawks will be in the market for a reliable veteran if Marshawn Lynch opts for retirement over a monster contract offer. That doesn't bode well for the enigmatic Christine Michael, who was relentlessly hyped as a potential difference-maker last offseason.

I'll admit a few things.

1. AP is a home run hitter. DeMarco is not.
2. AP would have most likely been through that hole quicker so that when Peppers blasted back he would have been reaching for air.
3. DeMarco does have a propensity to blow a tire or seek the sideline harder than they seeked Susan in that movie after 30 or so yards.

That all said, DeMarco is going to have a strong return next year if we resign him. I see 1500 yards easy.

I'll say it again, don't fall for the AP trap. Nothing is going to happen unless the Vikings say so..........

Vote for continuity. Vote Demarco Murray.

"Respectable offer" aka ...."less than the market will pay."

Basically... It will be a save face offer with the understanding that he is going to test the market.

Hello Andrew Luck/Demarco Murray combo.

I like an incentivized offer

4m signing bonus, 800k base salary and 200k per game started= 8m for 2015
5m base plus 200k per game= 8.2m for 2016-18

Let either side walk away after every year

There's alot going for Murray to stay in Texas period. No state tax being one. He understands the benefits of being a cowboy as well. If Stephen comes close, Murray will stay! His attitude is needed.

This I agree with. Stephen is just giving the standard company line.

They should have made a freaking respectable offer to him the first time...
He wouldn't have taken it. What the Cowboys think is reasonable and what Murray feels he is worth are probably not that close.

no agent would ever let a player sign a deal that bad. 8 million per is about what I think he's get, give or take 500k, but the team could easily start another RB each game and then what? Murray only gets 800k, which would be ridiculous. And yes I know Jerry would never let that happen, but it really defeats the purpose of a long term deal.

Your busting chops over semantics. It is an easy fix to games played or percentage of snaps, but the point is to pay for play. The worry is that he is worn down and injury prone so this fixes that. He gets the 8m if he performs like he is supposed to. Dallas reportedly only offered 4m, so they have some worries, but 1800 yds is easily worth 8m.

regardless, way too much is tied into incentives. has there ever been a contract signed where 90% of the base salary was incentives? I think not

He's not getting $9M, or $30M over three years from Dallas. If that's what he thinks is on the table (and I don't think he does), he might as well sell the house and get a start on next season somewhere else.

I think he's going to find the market from contenders softer than he was probably counting on, and then we'll see if he wants to play for a contender at a discount or play for more money someplace else.
