Twitter: Report: Dolphins offered Payton $100M

$25 million per season for an HC who won only one Super Bowl with a Hall of Fame QB? No thanks! Sean Payton must really be put off by Tua’s potential to turn that deal down if it’s accurate.

That’s where two fools met...the one that offered it and the one that didn’t take it

..whats the big deal or hyperbole situation with Payton? He's a good coach. He's not a mastermind or given acclaim for changing the game.

He did well in NOLA. Same as Big Mike in GB.

I had seen that earlier this morning. Joke. He's not worth it. Now, if Jimmy Johnson was available....
Jimmy wont have a Hershel Walker to trade and he is not familiar with college players like he was.

Payton is a good coach and while I disagree, I can understand why people think he is better than McCarthy and dont feel compelled to argue.

I absolutely will argue that he is not 2 first round picks better than big mike.

Exactly. If he is just a contract away then upgrade please but otherwise hold the course or go a different route.

Until that is verified, it's rumor.

If they want a HC that much, why Payton, he's not close the best. Why not approach Kraft with a deal for Belichick? BAL for Harbaugh? They're a lot better than Payton and 25M for only 4 years? Does that make sense?

If this is true, and coupled with what CLE did, we need to stop thinking we've got it so bad with the Joneses.

Could the mods please let me know how this qualified as a thread for the Fan Zone and not NFL Zone?

I'm trying to understand this better to post threads in their appropriate category.

Thank you.

I think he and McCarthy were the same tier before McCarthy's offense went stale and he fell off in GB.

Payton will command that type of salary with FOX or some other network, working half the time and enjoying his family. Seems he just newly married last year and may be the reason for his change in gigs. Once you have a taste of that freedom and wealth, you would be insane to go back to the nonstop grind as a NFL HC. I am sure Chucky Gruden regrets it every day.

I put them both in the same tier. Basically it is:

Belichick
Tomlin, Harbaugh, Andy Reid
Payton, McCarthy, McVay*, Pete Carrol, Kyle Shanahan*, Matt LaFleau
Doug Peterson, Lovie Smith, Ron Rivera, Mike Vrabel, Dennis Allen, Brandon Staley, Sean McDermott*

Probably some others that belong in those tiers but I'm not doing 32 of these lol

*Probably ascends before his time is over

I am not any of the three you addressed but I think it is because Payton has been connected with the Cowboys as a possible HC and was a coach here at one time.

Good....don't want a Parcells retread....coming over for a paycheck.

At this point anyone who comes to Dallas is only coming for the money, and that is 100% because of Jerry.

I'm not wishing for his death, but I will admit I'm looking forward to the day Jerry is no longer in the picture and the coaches get to coach. It has to be pretty demeaning to be told who your OC and other staff members are going to be and not be given a choice.

Translate: He will never coach the Dallas Cowboys (lol)

Not sure it means anything where the Cowboys are concerned. For all we know, both sides may be wanting to see how things play out this year before either would be interested. The Joneses have a good relationship with Payton, so if he takes some time off and McCarthy doesn't work out here, I could see mutual interest between them.
