Report: Eagles trade draft pick and LB Simoneau for WR Donte Stallworth

Stallworth, Lelie, Bryant and Randel El were all drafted in 2002 and looked at as a pretty good group of receivers. Now none of them are on their original teams for various reasons.

Yeah, I remember at that time all of us arguing over on the old site about whether we needed a WR or some guy named Roy........man, I thought Lelie would be alot better back then (scouting reports can't measure heart and courage with his problems going over the middle), in hindsight, we should be happy with what we did.

They needed WR help. Despite some of their fans denials and pleas of patience.

My home office is in New Orleans so I have a couple of die-hard Saints fans in the building. They think they got the better end of the deal by far because Dante had so much trouble catching the ball.

Imagine how much trouble he'll have with McNabb throwing him the ball. :laugh2:

that might be the only drawback of this move, McNabb, and Donte himself, although Brooks was a horrible QB, he was pretty good throwing the deep ball, I don't know how Stallworth will exactly fit in since he's a go-route type of receiver now in a WC offense, and he's not exactly a proven veteran, so the transition may take some time

seems like a good move for them.

i wonder what pick they gave up?

i still don't see it being enough, frankly. we can cover stallworth.

He's instantly a number 1 for them. Looks like Branch was a no go.

I don't agree with that but he's certainly better depth than whoever was behind Pinkston.

Who exactly do the Saints have behind Horn now? I thought wr was one of their weaknesses, not a strength to be traded away. Maybe that says something about Stallworth.

devory henderson or something like that - he's been "on fire" in preseason and a sleeper pick in FFL (hope so anyway, i snagged him last night)

According to STATS Inc., Stallworth tied for the NFL lead among wide receivers in dropped passes last season (11).

Meaningless, what is his dropped pass % with respect to other NFL receivers?

I'm thinking you have had some inside info from the Saints front office. ;)

Javon Walker too.

wow, Stallworth is a BUM

looks like my prediction of LJ Smith being their #1 receiver is coming true

Given McNabb's accuracy problems, I bet this number goes down.

how is that meaningless? he's was the top receiver on NO and he caught 70 balls, yet at least 20 of the leagues receivers with more catches had fewer drops.

I can't name off the receivers on their roster but they are high on several WRs on the team. So it's not a real weak point, esp compared to LB.

How do we know they had more or fewer catches? He only said he was tied for the NFL lead in total number of dropped passes.

Eagles Trade For WR Stallworth

August 28, 2006
By DAVE SPADARO

The Eagles have traded a conditional fourth-round draft pick and reserve linebacker Mark Simoneau to the New Orleans Saints for wide receiver Donte' Stallworth. The trade is contingent upon both players passing physicals with their respective new teams.
"We're bringing in an experienced receiver that's coming off of a great year with the New Orleans Saints and he'll fit in nicely into our receiving corps," said head coach Andy Reid. "He's got tremendous speed and quickness and he catches the ball very well. He's good with the yards after the catch."

"Mark was one of my favorite guys," said Reid of Simoneau. "He was a great person and tremendous player for us, on special teams and at linebacker. We just appreciate everything he did for this organization."

WR Donte' Stallworth adds speed and quickness
One of the league's most dangerous deep threats, Stallworth (6-0, 196) is entering his fifth professional season after originally being drafted by the Saints with the 13th overall pick in the 2002 draft. Last season, Stallworth had a stellar year with 70 receptions for 945 yards and seven touchdowns. His touchdown total was his highest since his rookie season when he set a team rookie record with eight scores.

Quarterback Donovan McNabb is excited about the addition of Stallworth.

"Dante is an explosive player who has had a very productive career with the Saints," said McNabb. "I've said many times earlier that I like the skill position players on our roster but realize that you can never have enough playmakers."

In 56 career games (32 starts), Stallworth has hauled in 195 receptions for 2,791 yards and 23 touchdowns. Among his career receptions, 45 were for 20 yards-or-more, while 12 of his career touchdowns were from 25 yards out or further. In addition, four of Stallworth's touchdown receptions have been game winners, including two in 2004, and he has notched 10 career 100-yard receiving games. In 2002, he became the first NFL rookie in 20 years to catch a touchdown in each of his first four games.

The 25-year-old, Sacramento, CA, native starred collegiately at Tennessee, where he finished his career with 99 receptions for 1,747 yards and 13 touchdowns. Stallworth entered the 2002 draft following his junior season.

Stallworth has 10 career games with 100-plus receving yards.

Just need 52 more half decent players and you'll go from 6-10 to 7-9. Good job, but the basement is forever yours. Embrace it, love it, its all they'll ever give you.

This will prove to be an excellent move for the Eagles...excellent. They are not a grind it out offense unless Buckhalder stays healthy...another skill player.

Personally, I think the Eagles and Giants will be in competition for a wild card spot, if not the division.

It will be a tough race. Probably the team the stays the most healthy wins the East.
