Well, we were without one of our starting All-Pro corners (and playing a rookie in his place) and without a defensive end that we were counting on. We also were installing a new defense and opening the season with two rookies starting on the offensive line.

Not saying I want McCarthy back, but I do agree with his outlook that the idea that the beginning of the season when you are still adjusting personnel and schemes should not be as good as you are at the end of the season. Injuries have definitely derailed how we may have looked at this point.

However, based on my own research on winning Super Bowls, I don't think any coach should be given more than five years to reach one. McCarthy has had his five years.
People are mad. The season has been ostensibly over since last month.

That being said I look at the 49ers who are going through the same thing performance wise and I don't blame MM.

The players are playing hard. Young players are getting better, outside Tolbert. They have done better than I thought after Dak went down.

I am down with upgrading MM. His offence is stale, his personnel deployments and gameplans questionable, and he gives nothing to the defense.

The question is who. You still have multiple Jones family members pulling this way and that. You need a strong personality to maintain in that plus you need to bring better schemes and strategies than what MM is doing.

As an aside, Landry didn't make his first SB until 66. He started coaching the team in 60. You would ditch Landry with that reasoning.

As someone who really didn't think this was a very good team coming into the season I don't have very strong feelings either way. If you feel there is a legitimate upgrade out there in the Cowboys budget then move on from Mike. I'm a fan of Ben Johnson personally, but outside of that I dont see a true slam dunk coaching candidate that is guaranteed to be better than McCarthy. Vrabel is an interesting name, but I also prefer offensive HCs just because I feel its easier to change defensive systems every couple years as your OC gets promoted.

MM put his house up for sale. It looks like MM might not want to come back.

We know Jerry doesnt like to fire HC’s and still have to pay them, we likes to wait til their contract runs out.

So if he re-signs Mike, how many more years will we be stuck with him? Doubt he would just get a one year contract.

McCarthy is very similar to Prescott….not great but not awful, and you’re pretty much going to get results accordingly.

Neither one is going to win games on their own, but as long as the front office is going to continue to leave gaping holes in the middle of the defense, the better teams are going to exploit it. Period.

Find the money you claim to not have yet other teams somehow do, or continue to lose. Stephen seems to like the latter so they can avoid bad seasons, which obviously happen anyway.

I'm still not convinced this isn't NOW this other way around. Jerry wants MM but MM is saying I may have other options. Besides, even if I DO agree to return, I want more say in choosing personnel and coaches. Over the last week, we have heard Jerry, Stephen, Dak and Parsons suddenly talking about how great of a coach he is. Seems to me they are trying to convince him to stay.......

I don't blame him at all.........Jerry hung him to dry. This is close to his best coaching season as a Cowboy. Not based on W/Ls but how he's lead this team through all the BS and adversities Jerry laid in his lap and players are still running through the wall for him. You don't other teams have noticed?

When you consider the current Jerry's hiring requirements, we're down to either Big Mike or Chucky.

This is why I was for Belichick. I think he's one a few coaches (maybe even the only one) that the Joneses would defer to on decision-making.

Landry was part of a different era where we didn't have the salary cap to contend with, and I mentioned that back when I did the research. You'll find that every Super Bowl coach (although there may be one exception, I can't remember) in the salary cap age has taken their team there within the first five years of becoming the team's coach. Now, you could say that's because if they didn't get them there, they wouldn't remain coach (and I can't argue against that), but that's what the evidence shows -- five years or bust. I did that research back when Garrett was coach and it became one of the main reasons I wanted him to be replaced.

what's the over/under on how many years Jerry has left? I really don't want to have to find a new team but might have to go on a cowboy fan sabbatical until he takes that last sip of johnnie walker blue
He looks really good for someone who is drinking majority of the week. He looks better than some 60 year olds and is still coherent. We have at least 5-7 more years left of this bare minimum.

At least he sells hope, his son in 7 years is just going to keep saying how we can’t afford squat

You have got to be kidding me. Only Dallas Cowboys if this really happens.

Report: ‘Feeling around NFL’ is Mike McCarthy will return to Dallas Cowboys in 2025

It is starting to seem more likely than not that Mike McCarthy could return to the Dallas Cowboys in 2025.

Jerry Jones has been dropping breadcrumbs left and right for a few weeks now. At just about every turn or radio appearance, Jerry has expressed confidence/optimism/support/call-it-what-you-want in favor of Mike McCarthy as the head coach of his football team. It should be noted that Jerry did not exactly do this back in January when it would have made sense (in a literal sense, not a contextual one) to extend the skipper. As we are all aware, he chose to let McCarthy (and a majority of his staff, including new defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer) run at the season in contract years which has existed as a cloud hanging over them throughout the entire campaign.

depends on the last 4 games.

how?

Jerry is all about selling hope...so for 2025 he has to sell hope after the disaster that it was. what will he do?
  • He will talk about injuries having derailed the season.
  • He will sign a mid level FA after all the talk about him not spending in FA
    • he will claim salary cap issues and stephen will parrot him (this is not an issue).
if we finish strong, then he may bring back MM for another 3 years, if we go winless, then fans will be at his throat and he has to look at another coaching option. Most probably chase moore, which will serve multiple purposes. one he is familiar with him and can control him as a first time head coach, second he will claim he discovered Moore and feed his ego that he found him and started his career. lastly Moore and Dak have a great relationship, which makes it easier.

and we will suck the same next year. this thing has unraveled.

And the rest o the NFL breathes a sigh of relief knowing the Dallas Cowboys will remain a non contender for the foreseeable future. It was already bad enough when Dak was extended, resigning MM will be the cherry on top of the crap filled ice cream bowl.
Precisely.

This sounds highly accurate.

They've completely deluded themselves into thinking it was the injuries. Jerry doesn't want to be uncomfortable until he dies, so no good coaches.
