What happened to the juniors? Weiss has been there 4 seasons. That means he has had 3 true recruiting classes since his first season was really Willingham's recruiting class in 2005. The 2006 class should be juniors this season and ND rarely red shirts players. Was that just a wasted class?

He got there late in the process. Notre Dame redshirts players like any other college. They probably didn't redshirt a few players they should have over the last two years due to the lack of talent. Don't forget, Willingham got fired because of his recruting which took ND out of the top 30 for the first time in recruit ranking history. Weiss did good with Davie's players, but once they were gone, he was stuck with Willinghams recruits and his first couple classes who are very green, which is what has been on the field the last two years. Unfortunately, Notre Dame does not kick anyone off the team, like other colleges do. That's why their sidelines are full of players who will never touch the field.

I am not following. What do you mean he got there late in the game? He got there in 2005. I understand that he was late to really make a difference to that 2005 class(seniors this season). Take that class away and that still leaves him with the 2006 class(juniors this season), 2007 class(sophomores this season) and the 2008 class(freshmen this season). Like I asked, what happened to the junior class this year?

People hate on my Cowboys, the HC, OC and the WR, and they hate on my Fighting Irish, Weis is not going anywhere, Gruden probably will end up in KC, or on a network until next year or the year after.

What's next? Hating on my Cornhuskers?

Who is hating? Weiss has not been good. That is just a fact. You can't ignore their worst season in forever that they endured in 2007. The 2008 season was better, but still not a good season. It is not about hate at all. Just recognizing that they have a long way to go and it may take someone different than Weiss to get it done. I don't think it will be Gruden, nor do I think he would be capable of building the program if it was given to him. I can't see Moms liking Gruden during recruiting season.

Weis needs to be given another year.

As much as Weis gets bagged on I tend to believe its the players and not the Coach in South Bend because Weis is a heck of a playcaller.

Weis' only real success came with players that Willingham recruited.

Feel free to dispute that.

They were Davie's players. Willingham was only there three years, two full recruiting years, both out of the top 20.

That's where your redshirt comes in. He had Brady, Samarjai, Zib, and the rest of the bunch.

Whether you love or hate Gruden, it's intriguing to think what he could do with this offense.

We'll see what Weis does next season, but I'm not against bringing in Gruden to coach.

ND does not redshirt except for medical reasons. You only get 4 years to playat ND unless you are going for your masters. That is why we usually only have 4-5 5th year players on any one team.
Also on CW: remember he was with the Pats in the SB so he could not really recruit until after the game. WHich was only a week or so before signing day. No chance to really get anyone; and Willingham was doing a lousy job of recruiting anyway. SO the 2006 class was his first one.

the only thing Weiss did worng was not getting his young players ready for the graduating of Brady Quinn and company, after they left he was forced to play youngsters, that is why they went 3-9, no one liked that but hey that is the price you pay for a mistake like that.
But after a year under their belt they came back and won 3 more games in the regular season, should have won 9 games, this season , the Refs beat them in the game against UNC, they should have finished off Pittsburgh and I forget who else the lost to, but they had those two games won, and gave it up in the 4th quarter.

Plus they won their bowl game, the way they played in the bowl game, is the way you can expect them to play from now own.

They will win, 10 or more games this upcoming season.

Weiss, will finish his contract and sign another if he wants to stay.

Look at all the Fat Charlie apologists up in here.
'Well he is only working on his 2nd and 2/3 recruiting class'
'he had to coach half of Willingham's recruits, another 1/5 of Davie's recruits and 1/8 of Holtz's recruits so it's not a fair assessment'
'they won their bowl game over another 6-6 team so they are on their way to playing like that every game and will never lose from now'
'well he only had 2 1/2 weeks after the Super Bowl retroactive to the 6 days prior to him moving from Foxboro to South Bend.

This dude is a terrible unprepared overrated, arrogant coach who is getting lapped by the field every year. Stop making excuses for this dude. He is a terrible coach period. Unbelievable what people will say to defend this poor excuse for a head coach.:bang2:

about what I would say about your posts.
burmafred again making no sense. My posts and Charlie Weis excuses and coaching ability don't equal each other. Nice try to get yourself on the map. You get owned more than anyone on this board. You are the king of Fat Charlie excuse making.

I wouldn't put much into this "report/rumor".... Gruden is no better than Weiss really, bottom line is Notre Dame is a tough place to recruit top talent because of the academic requirements placed on the students.

the academic excuse is a myth
I live in SB and the ND football team is not full of Rhodes Scholars--in fact ND recruits very well--they just don't coach them well

Charlie already blew that theory out of the water. Even after last years disaster they got a top 5 recruiting class. You have to work harder then OSU and Texas and company, but you can get the talent to go to ND. Now Charlie just has to show that he can develope the O and D lines as well as QBs and WRs.
The University has already committed to giving Charlie one last chance so there will be no change now.

The reason ND is ready to let hin go is they have had top 5 recruiting classes a few years - no results.
