So...is the general consensus that *if* we signed him he would have shaped up or simply everyone who wanted to sign him were blinded by Johnny Football fandom and couldn't see the obvious truth of him not being worth the risk, even on a minimum contract...

To be honest, the beginning of the end for him was when he entered the substance abuse program. As long as he was only tested once per year, he could have skated by. Now, he's one slip up from a year long suspension, which is a no go for a QB. Even if he went completely sober, no team will risk anything more than him being a back up and based off his past and marginal play, that may be too much.

the latter. He has serious problems and it's obvious he's not committed to changing. I hope I'm wrong and he cleans it up. In the end, no organization, even the Cowboys with their lauded "support system" can't make Manziel change, it needs to come from him....when/if he's ready and seriously committed.

"At least he says he plans to, after this one sweet kegger he’s throwing in Mexico."

That could end up being his demise...............

gotta say his latest pledge sounds legit! :/

Yikes, looks like I'm becoming more cynical as I age.....or maybe PFT is rubbing off on me........ or......

Maybe Johnny Manziel is taking seriously all the good advice people keep giving him to clean up his act.

At least he says he plans to, after this one sweet kegger he’s throwing in Mexico.

Manziel told TMZ that he’s “going completely sober starting July 1st.”

Of course, that gives him between now and Friday to get it all out of his system, and it seems like plenty of people with him aren’t taking the same pledge. TMZ has photos of a woman holding what appears to be an illicit substance, but Manziel said the drugs weren’t his and he didn’t know who the woman was.

this is such a load of horse**** it hurts. i know in my drinking days i would make these "one more weekend" promises all the time. at the time, i meant it.

i honestly hope for his sake he pulls out of this nose dive into hell he's on - but at this point he's shown zero signs that i'm aware of to stop. if you're going to stop, you do it.

you don't announce it and tell everyone. that's for them, not you.

I just wanted him in Dallas for the entertainment factor. The hate coming from fans would keep me laughing for years. I still have hope.

This pledge won't even make it till Tuesday. He's going to stay sober on the holiday weekend of 4th of July? lmao!

No chance.

i don't want to dive into a pick on johnny party - but i'd agree. weekends are THE time to drink and by habit alone, the worst time he can predict his stopping. 3 day holiday weekend and he's going sober after likely being ripped up last night and still slobbering on his pillow as we type/read.

yea. he'll get up and get on that promise cause if losing a million dollar NFL job didn't make him quit, a holiday weekend should do it.

I'd bet 50k immediately against him being long term 100% sober.

He has serious issues out of his control.

A MAJOR intervention is a start in the right direction AND THAT
GUARANTEES nothing.

He is just gong to "do it"?
I'm in for 50k too!
