Report: Pats took less to trade Milton to the Cowboys out of respect

Milton has a canon of an arm. From what I have read he has an acceptable TD to Interception rate, although a small sample size even if you consider his collegiate career. This ownership or upper management regime has finally awakened to doing acquisition and or drafting business in a better way. I think we must credit the Schottenheimer with his upgraded coaching staff influence as well.

Who wouldn’t want to play in Dallas. Zero accountability means zero need to work becoming a better player. Just cashing checks.
The Patriots accepted a lower offer from the Cowboys because Milton wanted to play here. Milton didn't go for the best or a better offer from other teams. Quite a classy move by the Patriots to do this so thoughtfully for Milton. They really must like him and give him a chance where he can earn his way to a starter position.

I have some buddies that are Patriot fans. They are upset that their team took less to do business with the Cowboys. This means we should be happy about this deal. We are getting a player at a position we can use and wants to be here. Dak is at the point in his career where he exits with a season ending injury every year. This makes the QB2 position so important. Finally, the FO did something right.

I like him. Too bad we won’t see him unless Dak is hurt. I’m going to watch every preseason game though.

in my eyes he say that most likel with Dak coming off the injury he will get more time to showcase int he PS with established players that will make the roster as opposed to the normal PS tryout ball many bubble players have to suffer through.

Probably, exactly when Uncle Miltie becomes a free agent.

He obviously needs development time. What’s the plan there? Dak getting hurt? Make it make sense.
Right. That's the problem. This was bad timing, yet again. The only way he is seeing time is if Dak gets hurt, or turns into Russel Wilson 2.0.

I initially read this as out of respect for Dallas and was like wrf....but now seeing out of respect for Milton makes much more sense.

Their pain, our gain, we have our next qb after dak

I don’t believe that. I believe the Patriots took the best offer they could get. This is a phony narrative started by Milton’s agent, the Patriots or Cowboys to give an otherwise insignificant transaction some importance.

i suppose it's good to see the team do that, but you can bet they didn't take something too far back from the better offer.

-I just find it interesting as fans we trash sending a 4th rounder for Trey Lance who 2 years earlier was a top 10 pick with 4 games experience.

-Fast forward 2 years later and we applaud sending a 5th rounder for a player that was a 6 rounder 1 year earlier because they played decent in 1 game?

Anyone else see the irony in our fan logic? I'm rooting for Joe and hope he does well here and the trade ends up being a steal for the Cowboys. However, I just find it comical how we evaluate certain moves.
The Lance trade only had one full year of control which is dumb if he’s supposed to be a developmental qb. The Cowboys still have three years with Milton. Plus the Cowboys are always crying broke but Lance’s cap number was $5 million. Milton’s is only like $1 million. Also a 4th vs a comp 5th is a decent difference in draft value for a team that frustratingly only improves through the draft.

A source of Coog's? oh HELL no. lol.

In my post, I have overly inflated my speculation of what I think he was thinking based upon what was stated in the OP's tweet (posted by @Hawkeye0202), which was:

The #Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.
I wonder if that is actually the case or the Patriots just don’t want to look like they got fleeced in the trade. Initially the Pats were acting like they could get a 3rd.

I love the fact he wanted to be here. This team has not had a QB worth developing since Dak was seen as that guy in 2016 behind Romo.

Too early to say if this trade will make up for the Trey Lance disaster but I can't wait to see how Milton develops here.
Milton has the raw talent. The problem is just getting him the reps he needs. If he buys into working hard on his foitball smarts and takes full advantage of pre season reps I think he’s a better option than lsnce ever was.

Great point. Those extra years are huge

It's not an off the wall perspective, but Milton made his desire known where he wanted to land and if you look at the components of the trade it's plausible that the Cowboys where not the top offer. However the offers from other teams may not have been significantly greater.

Conspiracy theory much? It was widely reported the Pats took less for him. It likely wasn't much less. Because they weren't getting a 3rd or 4th for him.

Milton may become our starting QB a similar way that Dak took over Romo’s job. Dak sitting on the sidelines due to injury provides that opportunity to Milton. And, Dak will be injured again.
