Former NFL receiver Sam Hurd reportedly is preparing to plead guilty to his drug conspiracy charge.

Attorney Jay Ethington told WFAA-TV that Hurd will make the guilty plea Thursday on a charge of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute marijuana and cocaine. His trial is scheduled to begin Monday in Dallas.

Ethington also told The Chicago Tribune that a "plea of guilty is in the works."
Ethington told WFAA-TV that his client faces a sentence of five years to life in prison. He also said the judge could put Hurd on probation. The Chicago Tribune reported that Hurd also faces a $10 million fine.

What a bag of tools....

Get your NFL money, and get out of that life. 600k-2 mil a year that you make in the nfl, should have been enough

Enough to start a drug empire and lose it all.

Not me. Dumb people make me mad. And everything about this whole situation is dumb.

Ruined his life trying to be a NFL kingpin.

Freaking idgit! *no pun intended*

Yeah, little sympathy from me.

He had a chance that very few actually get and he blew it.

I'm not so much sympathetic. I just always thought he was a guy with his head on straight. Very polite. God fearing. Then he gets caught peddling drugs and is going to do a decade or two in jail. He's responsible for his decisions, but it's just such a waste.

He did a great job of fooling everyone. Which could not have been accidental; and just shows how stupid he really is. Someone smart enough to pull that off for years is dumb enough to deal drugs.

Absolutely!!!

I don't think it was dumb, just a terrible thing to do. Trying to sell cocaine (and he was probably looking to sell heroin) is stuff that can destroy people's lives, ruin families and cause an insurmountable heartbreak and devestation.

He is a jerk and I hope he gets what he deserves.

The name of this thread shoud be titled

Sam Hurd is and IDIOT!!!

That would tell us everything we need to know. If you would have worked hard you could have gotten a 1 decent contract and had all the money you needed.

Stupid on all kinds of levels.

From all accounts, Sam Hurd did work very hard. He learned the responsibilities of every WR position and played special teams. He just didn't have a lot of natural talent. He also got a decent contract($4.15 million, $1.35 million signing bonus) when he joined the Chicago Bears. That is more than just decent. I think he got the most out of his abilities right up until he got busted for his drug activities. I agree that was very stupid.

I stand corrected. I guess I just remember him living off of a talented QB and a HOF WR and TE. He was a good special teams guy as well. All that aside, you threw away money and an opportunity that millions dream of but do not achieve because you watched to many Scarface movies. Stupid.
