Guess we shouldn't have drafted Ware in the first either, considering we had missed 1st round picks on such pass rushing studs as Ebenezer Ekuban, Kavika Pittman, Shante Carter....

If Phillips is there, we like him, and its value, you pick him.

Apparently you missed my point. GENERALLY speaking, I don't like drafting safeties in the first round..........what that has to do with drafting defensive ends in the first round is beyond me, and what that has to do with drafting Ware, a linebacker is even further beyond me.

i would wait until after the draft and see what we get there...if we get a gamechanger then no let newman walk unless he wants about half of what hall got...he probably will eventually get big money but you have to understand, in 3 years he will lose a step or two...and you guys said it...he is no gamechanger.

LOL. It's started already. Now he's not that good a player anyway.

Yes, let's take an area that plagued us all year long and make it even weaker by letting our best player in that area -- and one of the best players on the entire -- hit the road. Sounds like a plan to me.

It's funny, Javon Walker got an absurd contract, yet I haven't seen anyone say we should let T.O. go because he's over (well over) 30.

And as far as simply drafting people to replace him, the truth is that those "studs" we draft could well turn out to be Sammy Davis or Ahmad Carroll.

T-new has been my favorite player for the last few years, but i think its time to move on. The guy is good, but he just isn't a playmaker. Drafting a young guy this year and let t-new walk.

Let's put it this way:

TNew >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> unproven rookie

The gamble you take replacing TNew with a rookie isn't worth it. Sure you saved a few bucks. But you get what you pay for. Watching a QB carve up our secondary in the playoffs because we went the cheap route won't feel very good.

What is with the idea that just because we simply draft a young CB that he will automatically be able to fill the shoes of someone like Newman. Even if he can somehow start for us, he won't have the experience of a veteran CB like Newman. He is one of the top CB's in the league, and you don't just let that kind of player walk away from your organization.

So many idiots talk about Newman not being a playmaker. Just shows how ignorant they are about football. When the game was on the line the last few years and the other team was throwing the ball= just how often did the QB look Newmans way? How many plays did the other QB NOT throw it his way when the game was on the line? And some morons talk about him not making plays. Every time its a critical situation and the QB does not even LOOK newmans way that is a game changing/critical play.

If Newman wants to break the bank, let him do it elsewhere. He's a good cover corner no doubt, but he's no game changer.

For a decent number I think it's worth it, but for 9 or 10 mil a year.....no way. 7 mil or less or walk, imo.

I guess I am in the idiot group cause I agree 100% with you.

How many easy interceptions has Newman dropped over the years? He is a nice players but he doesnt make big plays to win games. Ware and TO are worth that kind of money because they are unstoppable forces, Newman is not in that category.

Newman changes games by causing opposing offenses to work around throwing to him. And speaking of dropped interceptions, Washington and Buffalo were driving against us to go ahead with the lead, and Newman stopped both drives with INT's, giving us the opportunity to win them both.
