Rest in Peace, Todd Christensen

Yes indeed. Along with Dorsett and Marcus Allen, Christiansen was one of my favorite players in the early 80s

He had a great nickname with the Cowboys that I cant seem to remember at the moment, we definitely cut him too soon.

Wrong. Landry told him he would not make it as a FB and wanted to move him to TE. He refused; Landry cut him. The light came on and he went to the raiders and accepted the change.

Actually he went to the Giants (I thought it was a trade) who also tried (to no avail) to convince him to move to TE. When they let him go (can't recall id it was a trade or cut) and he joined the raiders, Al Davis said he wanted Todd to play TE. At this point Todd said he knew he had better learn TE if he wanted to play in the NFL. His passing is a tragic loss...

Dude, I am fully aware of the reason why we cut him.

Todd's nickname when he was with us was Toddzilla. Boy, the things I remember when it comes to our Cowboys. Anyone else here happen to remember that nickname?

RIP. He was really annoying when he was on Roy Firestone show. It was like watching them at a Seattle coffee bar during poetry hour mixed with football.

When I started watching the 'Boys there was no Jay Novacek...it was Doug Cosbie. The original 84...(I'm getting old)

RIP Todd.

When I started watching the Cowboys, there was no Doug Cosbie. There was Billy Joe Dupree and Jean Fugett- the original # 84.

Christensen was always one of those athletes that the press loved to interview and get his thoughts back in the 80's. He was such an articulate guy.

For my own selfish reasons, I really started to respect the guy when he would proclaim that Syracuse QB Don McPherson was absolutely robbed of the Heisman Trophy back in 1987. Why did that earn my respect? Because the player that won it was Tim Brown. Who went to Notre Dame; Christensen's alma mater. And Christensen readily acknowledge that Brown should have never won I that year. The key was that the verbiage was such where he showed all due respect to Brown, but at the same time made it known how much of a travesty of justice he felt it was.

When I started to look at his life and career a bit further, I started to see a real Renaissance Man. Very intelligent and thoughtful, but a great athlete not only in football, but baseball and track and field. Just a very open minded and thoughtful person. They just don't make 'em like that anymore.
