At what point do we go vanilla on our schemes?

We're playing Lions and TB and I'm starting to not like the idea of letting these teams get an idea of what works and what doesn't work against us. If we knock of NY next week, I think we got to start considering saving something for the postseason.

So once we wrap up HFA, do we let Romo start and play a game to knock the rust off? To exhibit him for potential trade partners? Or do we start the starters and maybe sub in Romo at some point in the last two games?

I kinda want to win 15 games this year, but we need to get Romo ready just in case.

I would....take care of needed business to secure the best playoff seed and then begin rotating in our roster depth at all positions, including QB. I see that as keeping our starters warm, reduce potential for injury while giving our bench further reps/experience. And to your point, Romo definitely needs to knock off rust as well as an opportunity to market his value.

I'm not afraid of Tony Romo seeing some playing time, before the playoffs.

Seems like a good idea to get some reps before the playoffs

If we put Romo in and we dont have our best Oline to protect him, he's gonna take some hits.

I rather Dak get all available snaps. If you gone roll with the kid, then roll with him all the way.

History has shown that Garrett doesn't sit his starters, so no reason to start now.

On a side note... giving Romo mop up duty? Seems insulting, but he's a team guy so he'd do it, but I'd totally feel insulted if I were him. Hell, he's already running the scout team to prep, tho.

There is zero benefit in playing Romo from a Jerry/Garrett perspective. It is already weird enough that you are playing an inferior player over him in the first place. If you don't play Romo and Dak stinks in the playoffs, then you can always just say you didn't know what you had in Romo after missing most of the last two years and no one will second guess you.

Wish I could give this post one thousand "Likes" WG...you summed up my thoughts precisely.

This reminds me, at least a little bit, of the time that the 49ers had homefield locked up in their final game of the season (1992) and so they put Joe Montana into the line up in the second half of that last game.

Montana came in and had two possessions, both TD drives, and the 49er fans loved it. The problem is that when Steve lost to Dallas in the playoffs, with an obviously healthy Montana sitting on the sideline, and never getting in, the fans were not happy about that.

But from the team perspective it worked out great for the 49ers because it showed Montana could in fact still play and so the Chiefs acquired him in the offseason.

I wouldn't make any assumptions about wrapping up HFA early...

I bet Romo's preference would be to get on the field any way he could.

Romo can have the last quarter of week 17 if the game no longer matters.
