Ok. Good pickup.. Could have got him in the second according to many. That's all I'm saying.

BTW: I have a degree in Computer Engineering as well and could probably put up a 28+ on that test. Not going to help me block a NFL NT or DT....

Jerry said in his post draft presser that we wanted to take him in the first round instead of the second because you can give 5 yr deals to first round picks only, everybody else gets 4 years or less.

If Frederick turns out to be a stud, having him an extra year before he becomes a free agent could save the team millions of dollars on the cap.

So we basically took him at the bottom of the first so we could get an extra year on his contract, even though we had a 2nd round grade on him.

I think some of you care more about value than the player.... sometimes if you really like a guy or oh my god need a guy you have to overdraft him to ensure you get him because you don't know what the other 31 teams will do.

It's apparent they felt they needed someone who could anchor the center of the line. It seems they felt Cooper and Frederick were the guys who could do that. Like it or not the key to this draft for them was fixing the center of the lines. Something many of us have called for.....

So what if they took him sooner than most people thought he should go. All it takes is 1 team out of 31 deciding they value him more than you. They drafted for need. Everyone does it from time to time.

I believe Escobar however was probably the top guy on the board and Jerry told them ok we will draft him, but by god you will use him do you understand? I think we all know that's probably not who Jerry wanted.

Not picking on you,...just pointing out an error. Truth is,...he tested out very good athletically. Only thing he didnt test out well on was his 40 time which we all know has ZERO impact when it comes to his position.

Check it out.....

20 Yard Shuttle-
Travis Frederick 4.76
Jonathan Cooper 4.84
Menelik Watson 5.01
Larry Warford 5.10

That twenty yard shuttle time is better than the SUPER DUPER AMAZING most athletic guard to ever play football Jonathon Cooper....LOL

And heres the three cone drill

3 Cone Drill-
Jonathan Cooper 7.78
Travis Frederick 7.81
Kyle Long 7.83
Menelik Watson 8.31

Here he was only off Coopers time by a whopping 3 tenths of a second. Better than Kyle Long, and KILLED Watson.

These type of tests are far and away better indicators for an O lineman than a 40 yard dash.

Again,....not picking on you, just wanted to take this opportunity to clear this misconception up.

..........I like those measurables ALOT....calms me quite frankly. Gracias:)

Have the Cowboys said where they plan on playing him? I pray it is at centre.

..EXCEPT that his guards would be Bernadeau and LIvings....

.......Wish to heck we would have taken Warford after Frederick....then we would have been talking. Always next year I suppose. I'd love to still sign a decent olineman in Free Agency and a DTackle. WHEN we cut Free loose...would this be possible?

I don't think that is he reason at all. They were scared, with the run on O-Line, that their 2nd rd pick wouldn't be there just like their 1st..

Heard his former coach, now at Arkansas, yesterday on 103.3. Said he is as nasty as they come. Said he broke arms and wrist during practice and had to tell him to stop hurting our own players. Said to take it out on Saturdays!

This kid appears to be a beast. Said we got a great one that will play for 10 years.

Frederick was a huge overdraft but when your interior is THAT bad then you have to address it especially in the middle of a historic run on OL. Though don't oversell his athleticism, he looked slow on tape which is bad for a ZBS (unless you're not running it anymore?)

a slight caveat there is that sometimes school smarts does not equal football smarts though indications are he has them.

Gurode was an honors student at Colorado and in a serious field as well- not basket weaving

Gurode got a degree in 'ethnic studies.' I am sure it s a serious subject but I hardly see it more difficult than say 'english.'

The intro math for Frederick's degree is stuff like this:

So you think that they were lying when they said they had him ranked as a high second round pick? Or are you claiming they suck at evaluating talent?

Haha, funny but not quite. He is in computer engineering, not theoretical physics. Differential equations is not intro math to anyone, it's basically the last line of defense. I absolutely hated that class, almost as bad as Organic Chem II :(

I do like the fact he went to Bigfoot High :)

Signal processing is based on diffeq. harmonic trasforms. All those encryption techniques, jpeg and mpeg etc are based on that. That is a sophmore level CE course. I know because I have taken it. That is what I work with.

A bit of both. Generally, unless they're physical freaks, G/C don't get drafted high. Frederick is a guy that normally goes round 3 - strong, athletically limited, good technician, smart, etc. High floor, low ceiling.

How many people that can bench 500 lbs and squat over 750 lbs do you think come out every year? His agility drills are right there with Cooper.

Was thinking about DT...

We have Rat, Hatcher, Lissimore, Crawford, Price, and Brent isn't out of the equation. That's not a bad rotation at all. It's a smaller front, but Rat and Lissimore (and Brent) have played NT in a 2 gap system--- should be able to hold the point as a 1 Tech even though they are smaller.

The fact that we didn't bring in one DT in the draft of UDFA tells me they're pretty content at DT.

DE could use some depth, but they're bringing in A LOT of LBs... I think some with the intention of converting to speed DEs to backup Ware and Spencer.

Does Kiffen like LBs at DE?

I'm with Hawkeye19, I see our 6 biggest LBs going to DE.

I had a pet OL I wanted to draft (Brian Winters) too but c'mon, the season does not start tomorrow. A lot can happen between now and then.
