how great of a job brandon carr did on desean jackson. desean was completely taken out of the game and all the while carr was in his face getting him frustrated. thats how you defeat desean jackson. why teams come out and play zone coverage against those receivers, is just beyond me.

single high safety and press coverage, while playing man coverage on avant and cooper. then hope your backers take care of shady. somehow we did all of that. i was real confident we could handle those recievers, but the fact that our LBs handled shady just wowed me.

Sometimes you have to rely on your talent to win it's matchups more than you have to scheme your way to victory. We have invested heavily in putting talent into our secondary, it is refreshing to see that investment pay off.

another thing on desean jackson. you really only have to work hard for about 2 quarters. carr did a fantastic job and he was also able to get jackson to basically give up in the 2nd half.

deseans attitude is just terrible, and for the great year hes having, when the going does get tough you cannot depend on him to break you out of it.

Over the last few weeks, seems to me that we have played a lot less zone and much more man press technique with our CBs. This is a question of playing to our strengths with our existing talent and less to the Kiffen Cover2 strategy.

Both Carr and Mo are natural man to man or press corners. I'm not surprised to be honest. That fits our personnel much better IMO.

memo to all defensive coordinators who make millions more than me. never ever play zone against the philadelphia eagles. speed will kill the gaps.

isnt it amazing how regular fans like us know this, but pros that make 7 figures cant figure it out?

Carr is great on two fronts:

1) He is very technically sound. You can tell that he practices hard, watches a lot of tape and understands his assignments. He just doesn't make mistakes. This will lead to a long career IMO.

2) He can RUN. He isn't a burner, but he knows how to use his legs. I don't have a way to describe this, but he doesn't slow himself down because he is worried about a double move. Once he feels the WR is committed, he is running flat out with the guy. To me this is a combination of natural instinct combined with confidence in his understanding (which comes from number one here).

that the confidence he has. Not only is he playing man under, but he tends to do it with a single high safety as opposed to cover 2 safety. He's using the second safety to play the inside seam with the LBers. THAT is serious confidence in both your corners and your deep safety. Wilcox's speed to the sidelines is impressive.

This defense is predicated on winning matchups.

As Rick Flair said "To be the man you have to beat the man", and Carr is the man after beating Jackson all day long.

Not that im saying hes not playing at a pro bowl level cause he most certainly is but if he wants to be the man his real test is coming next week with the second best receiver in the league megatron

I was, frankly, surprised to see Carr providing such blanked coverage on D. Jackson. VERY impressive.

Brandon Carr is turning out o be worth every penny of his $50m free agent contract.

why teams come out and play zone coverage against those receivers, is just beyond me--not every team has Carr, Mo and Scan-LOL

Worth every penny since the day he got here.

He plays both man and zone at a high level. He's one of the best complete CBs in the game.

yes but their recievers are small. if you have anyone thats somewhat bigger you can take them out of it and if you do it long enough you can get them to give up. jackson flat out quit early in that 2nd half.
