What are the chances RG3 turns out a bust? I hate the thought of Washington landing a legit franchise QB. Then again, the rivalry is always more fun when both teams are competitive.

The chances are greater than 50% because of a host of factors:

1. Average bust rate of 1st round QBs.
2. Success rates of QBs with his playing style.
3. Success rates of Commanders QBs.
4. No history of playing in Pro Style Offense.
5. Being forced to start immediately.
6. Having uncompromising offensive coaches who notoriously do not try to fit the system to the QB.
7. Will be on a short leash and will be turned on when the Commanders continue to be cellar-dwellers.

What do you consider a bust?
In relation to what they paid or compared to the average NFL starting QB?
I think his floor is a lower level starting QB and his ceiling is multiple Pro Bowls.
I don't see him as someone that could be an out-of -the-league type bust.

I really don't see him busting at all. When you think of a bust 99% of the time you can associate it with maturity, drugs, and/or work ethic. It doesn't seem like RGIII falls under any of these categories. I think he will be fine.

His chances of being bust revolved directly around him getting injured. He has almost every tool you could ask for out of a QB, except for the ability to feel pressure without seeing it. There were some times in college he got laid out, and with the NFL - those hits get you injured.

I agree with this, though I think the roster around him is pretty weak, and without a first round pick in the next couple of years I think they'll have trouble building around him.

So even though he might be a good player, we might still consider him a bust if the team sucks.

I like his chances too.
But busts happen as often for the simple reason that a player does not have the skills (mentallly and/or physically) that the drafting team thought they had.
David Carr, David Klinger, Todd Blackledge, Heath Shuler, Kelly Stoeffer, etc, etc, etc.

I hope it's the offensive schemes. From the little I watched there were a few too many bubble screens.

And yet, Jason Campbell busted in DC. And he was supposedly poised, the hardest worker EVAR, and squeaky clean.

Also, I think you'll come to find that Griffin's attitude changes significantly when all of DC blows smoke so far up his *** that his ego gets too big to fit in a car. Cam Newton could deal with the bull because he is a classic narcissist and demands that he be loved. You already get the sense that the guy's ego is getting pushed beyond his natural comfort zone. They are already treating him like a savior and a sure-fire HOFer in DC. So you don't know how the kid is going to handle it.

RG3 seems very grounded to me. Now he is engaged. I see him being faily stable.

I agree about Newton. He is the very defintion of a narcissit. He's good though. They just need to hope he's not an "extreme narcissit", becasue they will cut everyone out of their world and become isolated if thisngs go really bad.

I wouldn't consider Jason Campbell a bust.

Also, I would agree they are going to have a hard time building around him. But, I don't think we will see him out of the league in 5 years. I can see him retaining a starting role. He does have a lot of pressure on him that's for sure. One major concern is injuries, with his playing style he is no doubt going to encounter them.

Me neither.
A guy like Leinart...yes. Russell? uh, yes.

I smell bust. Cam Newton is gonna be special though. Already is.

I agree that his bust factor will almost certainly come from a very bad shoulder injury - outside of that I doubt it.

He is very intelligent and from all accounts is a hard worker.

You look at most QB busts and those are the two factors that get most of them.

NOW might he only be as good as say Freeman or the like- close to top 10 but not quite there- that is much more likely then busting.

Newton so far is doing things right; whether he can keep it up is another story.

Anybody that plays for the Foreskins = hoping for a huge bust!!!!!

Here's to hoping he is the 2nd Coming of Heath Shuler!!!

I think he's going to have a Cam Newton type rookie year, I like him that much. He won't put up the Cam Newton type numbers because the Commanders don't have a Steve Smith or as good an offensive line, but I think he'll have that type of impact.

It won't result in a ton more wins, but he's going to do some things. Especially since their D is actually legit.

Could he be a bust? Of course. So could Andrew Luck though.

I wouldn't either. I had a short list of guys that I wanted Dallas to sign as a back up QB. Jason Campbell was #2 on that list. Honestly, I think Oakland downgraded when they decided to hitch their wagon to Carson Palmer.

He was playing very well in Oakland last year until his injury.

Also, a lot of people saying they hope RGIII busts. I like the kid, and I'm rooting for him. I want this division to be as competitive as possible and beat people at their best.
