Colts | Rhodes to become an unrestricted free agent this year
Mon, 5 Feb 2007 11:23:19 -0800
<A href="http://www.kffl.com/link/19">Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports Indianapolis Colts RB Dominic Rhodes is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this year.

Do you see any interest in this guy? Obviously, if we keep both Jones and Barber, this won't happen. But what if Jones goes? Will Rhodes be affordable enough to sign, and let him compete with Barber for the feature role? Might his Superbowl performance have influenced Turner, Jones or Rivera even?

He certainly looked like a feature back throughout the playoffs and in the Superbowl. Seems to have very good vision in the hole, and breaks tackles, along with a good burst.

We're fine with our RB depth, he had a good game at the perfect time but let someone else throw money at him.
Also, I can't believe how little credit the Colts o-line is getting for the great job they did against the Bears and PAts

I really like Rhodes and always have . He's one of the better 3rd down backs in the league , a good receiver , a good kick returner , and can carry the whole load when called upon . That being said , I don't think Dallas needs a 3rd down back or a kick returner . Now if for some strange reason J. Jones wasn't on this team next year...I would strongly consider him .

Thank god. When I first saw the title I was thinking of the Human Fist (Ray) and the HC search.

RB is not a problem on this team...we have two good young one's

David

Rhodes IIRC is from the Dallas/Fort Worth area. That being said, I don't really see a place for him here. If we hire Norv, I think JJ and MB3 will have breakout years.

IIRC the Cowboys were negotiating with Rhodes the last time he was a free agent. Don't think he fits in now, at least not better than what we've got already.

Well the old philosophy in football is when you have two of a thing to equal a whole you have nothing. But I do think Norv would let Julius Jones take over if he were to get the head coaching job.

Like the Colts combo of Addai/Rhodes? That worked out badly for them, I'm sure. Or even the Patriots combo of Kevin Faulk/Antowain Smith. Parker/Bettis? Jamal Lewis/Priest Holmes?

Sometimes old philosophies are just that, old. and irrelevant.

He didn't excel in the starting role after Edge left. It wasn't until after drafting Addai and bringing Rhodes off of the bench that he began to pound like his old self again. Last night the commentators made mention of that very fact.

Perhaps he's just another Barber that's great off of the bench.

He had a good year in 2001 when James was hurt. Other than that he's mostly been a backup but I see what you mean.

I don't know about that. His top RB's seem to always be more hardnosed type running backs (Smith, Stephen Davis, Ricky Williams, Leroy Jordan, Frank Gore). Jones just doesn't fit that mold. He is a one touch RB. That is, it only takes one touch to tackle him. I see Barber fitting the mold almost exactly what Turner likes. Rhodes, would also fit, however.

someone will give him more money than he's worth, no thanks

Agreed. He's a T.Ham in training.
