so what, it's just pot, everyone does it

It must be a bigger issue for Williams to risk a continued ban from the league. Evidently he has a problem

That is not possible. Pot is not addictive.

I am a proponent for legalizing pot even though I am not a user. I always laughed when potheads told me the stuff is not addicitive yet could not stop smoking. Pot is very similar to alcohol. Use it at home responsibly and you should have no great troubles. Use it irresponsibly and deal with the repercussions.

Chris Mortenson is on Colin Cowherds show. He was discussing Williams. Goodell will count on the recommendations of theNFL doctors treating Ricky as part of his decision to re-instate Williams. He said something to the effect that falling off the wagon is a part of rehab. I don't think that was his theory, he was just reporting something he had heard from doctors. Maybe that is why it is not an automatic lifetime ban.

Yeah, well, this is the NFL... It has a reputation to protect as does any other business that is in the national spotlight as much as it is... Pot is awesome, yes, but, if pot was allowed you know at least 30% of the league would be tokin' up and coming in to play red-eyed and exhausted after a few plays because they have a hard time breathing from all the smoke in thier lungs.. When you are in the NFL, your body is pretty much not your own. Don't do anything that would jeopardize your wellbieng or your standing with the team, ala smoking POT or riding a motorcycle.

Anything that takes control of your life can be addictive even some thing such as food. Weed can also be addictive and evidently is for guys like Williams and some others in the NFL who just can't seem to stop knowing full well they will be tested

I forgot who he was talking to during that NFL Network piece....Rod Woodson I believe...and he asked Ricky if he was still smoking and Ricky said No....that he was ok with his life now and he didn't need it....I guess he meant at the time of the interview he wasn't high....

its not chemically addictive is what they heard and are trying to repeat. Anything in the world can be psychologically addicitive. They may not get the shakes when they stop smoking pot but potheads will get bored and depressed when they stop, to me thats addiction.

I am part of "everyone" and have never done it. That is a sad excuse for doing something he knows will have repurcussions and has already derailed much of his life.

Most people tried it especially if they were somewhat wild as teenagers ..... but Ricky is a grown freakin man ...... Time to grow up and stop letting something as stupid as pot dictate how you live your life .....

Cue the "so what, it's just pot, everyone does it" arguments...

well that's just one simplistic side of looking at it. blunt bottom line is that his million dollar job rides on him NOT doing it. i'm seldom in favor of an employer telling you what you can and can't do in your own time, but if you take a job with those stipulations, DON'T DO IT.

i know your background on it hos and i respect it. we *all* form our opinions based on our own experiences but that doesn't make our experiences right or wrong - just what we've been through.

if you've been through bad times due to it, that's how you'll see it.
if your worst crime through weed was eating moldy food cause it looked tastey, you have a different point of view entirely.
if you've tried it a few times and it never "hit" (not uncommon at 1st) then you may have quit trying and wonder what the fuss is about.

i won't get into the moral debate - those drag on forever and no one has ever changed their mind because of it - but if rickey is smoking again and putting millions at risk, he's just flat butt-nugget pickin stupid and doesn't deserve to have a job that will set him up for life cause he simply can't make the proper decisions based on his talents.

sad but true.

I smoked pot when I was in high school but quit when I was 16.

Ricky should be banned for life both for the NFL and for his own sake. He needs to move on and it is obvious that football is not where his heart is. He uses it to make money but he has no real love or passion for the game. The NFL doesn't need him and he needs to move on.

Continuing on a different field on the subject of suspensions. It's amazing to me how the NFL is cracking down hard on drug testing, but haven't done much in regards to abusing alcohol.

I mean, the key example that comes to mind is Leonard Little. This guy gets arrested for drunk driving after he has an accident in which a mother dies and doesn't get a year suspension? I am not sure he actually was suspended at all. It's ridiculous.

If they are going to be so stringent on drugs, they need to do the same for drinking and actions of this sort. It's sad that Ricky Williams has no sense to stop smoking drugs, but at least he is only truly effecting himself. Drinking and driving can cause harm to others which should carry a heftier fine then what Leonard LIttle went through.

Just sad.... take a look at this story for a look back at L. Little's incident:
