4 failed drug test caused him to leave, CFL has no drug testing so Williams did not have to worry about that.

I read he took a drug test one hour before a radio interview the other day and passed.

Maybe he turned the corner.

I hope Dallas does not touch him, Dallas went through the drug issues in the 90's and that is a road this team does not need to go down again.

Could be that depends on the NFL, they don't have to reinstate him. The rules says he can apply for it but that does not mean it will be granted.

If he has adhered to the terms of his suspension, then the league will likely reinstate him.

They may then again when he failed he went off to the CFL and was not being tested at all. We will see what the league office does.

I think Williams is a flake who cannot be counted on. The year he left Miami high and dry he had stood up in front of the team during mini camp and talked about teammates needed to be commented to the upcoming season and then a week before camp he walks? I would not want to put much trust in Williams

I would not trust him at all. He is, as you said, a flake and is completely unreliable. Maybe the Raiders will take him.

Ricky Williams seems like a pretty decent guy. He's a little off, and probably has some mental issues, which caused him to retire. You know what thought, he always treats the reporters with respect, never says a bad words about anyone except himself, and he is not a premadonna thugs like some of these guys and isn't always in trouble with the law. Beleive me, there are a lot worse guys playing in the NFL right now.

I would trade a late round pick for Williams in an instant. His salary is peanuts and no one can deny this guy's ability to rack up the yards.

I would not be against trading away Julius to someone, and trading a late pick for Williams to either start to split carries with Barber.

By the way, say what you will, but all other stuff aside, Julius Jones could not hold Ricky Williams' jock as an NFL RB, when they are both on the field.

Any player who insists on giving interviews wearing a helmet gets high marks for style in my book. The far bigger concern about Williams is his recent performance in the CFL.

As for comparisons to Julius Jones on the field, why don't you wait until Williams hears back on his petition to hold the jock of a guy like Jones before drawing any conclusions? When did not-being-stark-raving insane stop being considered a plus for an NFL running back, anyway?

He's troubled, he's lost, he needs guidance. Like someone else said before, he's not out there being a thug or getting in trouble with the law, he's simply partaking in some mediocre drug use. He's not shooting up, he's not snorting, he's not cooking, he's not polluting his body with every enhancement under the sun, he's smoking a few joints a day- woopee. Surely not a reason to crucify him like some here seemingly take such great pleasure in doing.

I'll tell ya what, the main problem most people have with this kid is,.. Simply put, he's talent being wasted. And for some reason or another, alot of you seem to take offense to that and almost make it personal. Half the people most of us know, smoke dope. It's one of the biggest pasttimes America partakes in. Point is though, we aren't "wasting talent" and there's no reason to get bunched up about it, only where Ricky is concerned. Really, it's time to get over it and give this kid another chance. God help some of you if you ever slightly step off the "path" and need assistance returning to it.

The way I see it, Miami's front office and coaching staff are the one's that dropped the ball on this. My guess is they did see this coming but opted to keep him on the field over giving him the help he needed. In florida, so far away from his family, only a product of his talent, nobody really giving a crap about his cries for help, that when he walked up to that cliff it's really no wonder why it was so easy for him to "slip".

But we're here now, everything else is in the past; Who is the one team that he could go to and be successful with? I say, coming home to Texas, with our family-like atmosphere combined with his own family, that we would be the greatest chance for him at this point. Not to mention we've proven successful up to this point with another high-profile "problem player" in TO. And just like TO, this guy's pinky finger just oozes talent and his starting on our team would be no question. I truly believe that if one person could get through to him, that guy would be Jerry.

I whole-heartedly think he's worth another chance and I say bring him in atleast for a look. If he's not what we're looking for, no loss. If he is what we're looking for and can return to his high level of play, well then we've just vastly improved that position. So many people were "afraid" of TO coming to their team, and just look what he did for us. And he did it with a messed-up finger. A risk that is still paying off for us. Ricky could easily bring the same thing to the table. Sure he might need an eye kept on him, but at least in Big D he'll be guaranteed to atleast get that. Heck, I'd be for just bringing him in for a year, giving him that help he needs, then cutting our ties with him if he's not in our future plans. A humanitarian act that is just not found in today's NFL. No but wait, I forgot, the concensous around here is.....HANG HIM! Seriously, whatever people. Lol.

He is breaking the law, regardless of your personal view point of weed the fact is it is against the law and it is against the NFL policy.

That's just plain stupid. Yeah, he's applying to get back in the league but he's stoned when he's doing it. Yawn.

I would rather take a chance in bringing back Dimitrius Underwood or Alonzo Spellman. At least they're problems derived from NOT taking their medically approved medication. What's Ricky's excuse?

Stupidity. He has failed 4 drug test so it is not like he has not been given chances in the past. I keep seeing some talk about giving a guy a chance well Ricky blew his chances but then some would give him as many chances as he would like I don't see the punishment in that.

To err is human. To forgive is divine.

If a few years can first pass and he proves that he has overcome his addiction, I say give him his shot. Of course, the passage of time isn't favorable for a professional athlete, especially a running back, but the guy hasn't even proven that he can remain clean for any stretch of time.

Ricky has a documented psychological problem just like those two - certainly not as severe but a legit problem nonetheless. People who suffer from social anxiety often use drugs or alcohol to reduce their anxiety in social situations.

No, he's a kid who has a mental disorder. He's a screw up but he's a pretty damn good player on the field.
