He can go on IR but can't practice as one said for 6 weeks and can't play for 8 weeks; that's if he's 1 or 2 to return from IR. He likely doesn't need to go on IR but we don't know anything other than he's not playing Thursday.

Nothing makes sense about this move to IR. He was certainly making progress this training camp. As always I think we have a partial media readout of the real dilemma going on with his disposition. Lots of drama for keeping a fourth TE, or sixth WR this year. I looked at the calendar as I was concerned about anthony hitchens and his return in eight weeks, turns out he really only misses the first five games if his recovery an rehab go according to plan.
It is going to be a rugby scrum after this last preseason cut for players, I have no feel on how it will play out with our fringe players.

If the NFL were serious about concussions they would have a rule in place to allow roster exemptions for players in the concussion protocol. Players in the concussion protocol would not feel rushed to get back and the team would be under no rush to push them onto the field before they are ready.
In theory I agree but the pats would have 70 on their roster all year

That would be too easy to abuse. Then teams could put anybody on the concussion exempt list at any time. The player just has to claim concussion type symptioms.

Maybe they could require brain scans as proof but who decides the cut-off on what is or isn't a legit concussion.

It's a good idea in theory but probably not in practical terms.

If the 'concussion' is that severe...simply retire right now, and don't pass Go.

I said this the other day here, and got dogpiled.

This has to be a way to stash him. Surely, a concussion isn't a multi-month thing with him. The hit didn't look that bad.
Maybe he has a glass jaw, he may get a concussion every time he is hit

I like the scrum analogy.

Could be a cluster flock.

I think he will be on the 53 and will play
I don't see him being on IR
Think a reporter just needing attention
If he is bad enough that he can't play after 3 weeks then there are major issues for his future

Cluster flock is more my feeling, only thing calming my nerves is the fact Will McClay (assistant director of player personnel) is working his *** off right now to make sure we land the best players available.
